What was everyone's bounce rate at? mine was 80% most days.

The more i analyse my sites and read responses from you guys , more i believe its just a random hit on affiliate sites from google..I dont see any other explanation or i can see whats common between all the sites involved.. Has anyone got any message in GWT ??

80% here too. But most of my sites are always 80% even the ones ranking #1

I was ranking very highly even with that bounce rate. Anyone else? Maybe that has something to do with it.
My bounce rate before hit was 15-20%

After dealing with it I got it finally lifted and I think it indeed is a penalty for overall quality because it has the same behaviors afterwards (like after a manual penalty).
- Tried to decrease loading times by using speed tools and google insights.
- Optimized the page a bit more for mobile
- Cloaked affiliate/popup stuff
- Added content
- Built some natural backlinks. Social media, blogs or something relevant but not to many.
- I also boosted my related social media sites with new content and gained likes/followers/...
- Fixed 404 errors, broken images and bad redirects
- Added https through cloudflare for free
- Optimized visitor flow and layout to reduce bounce rate and increase sites per visit and time on page
This is all I done which should be considered just as normal SEO stuff but I'm ranking fine again, and even better. Maybe it helped, maybe it was just google dance but this could help in general. Had the "penalty" for 10 days, not sure if all the changes really could have been recognized so fast.

I thought the evaporation of all my ALT tags from around 600 posts (each post has between 5 to 50 images) caused by a Wordpress update (4.7) was the cause of my lost of rankings, and thus, traffic. But, I noted in mid December that my website was cloned by a Russian website. The cloning process began in 28-29 November and by December 3, the cloned version of my website was completely indexed by Google. On December 4 (one day after the clone was indexed), my website started losing rankings (see the image below), and on December 8, the lost of rankings intensified (I updated my website to wp 4.7 on December 6 or 7). I still don't know what might have caused the downfall of my website: the lost of all my ALT tags, the cloning, or a mix of the two. Anyway, I have already fixed all my ALT tags and after sending a DMCA request to Cloudflare (the cloner is using cloud flare), the owner of the site that was cloning my website stopped cloning my site and started to clone another site, an Indonesian tube. I didn't recover my rankings/traffic yet. Cloned posts (around 400) of my website are still indexed by Google. I'm expecting a recovery after Google deletes the indexed cloned posts (the Russian cloner doesn't host my content anymore, but the cloned posts are still in the Google cache).

Bing webmaster told me this. Then I checked each post and they didn't have any ALT.
PS.: I use galleries.
I have the same weirds bounce since couples of days....Went to 55-60 to 85%....weirdest is that my KW didn't drop

Could it be that google finally devalued PBNs? I haven't been drooping any rankings but over the last month I've seen 2 of my sites rank significantly higher. Those two sites have NO PBNs. Only web 2.0 networks, article submissions, and a few guest posts. Could just be that I'm only ranking higher because others are falling though

Drop rank means their is a change in algorithm of search engine.

Seems like a coincidence that you dropped in ranking. It usually should not happen that fast. Also, google is pretty good at detecting duplicate and cloned content. But you could try and report the site to google itself as spam even if the chances are not high that it gets recognized.

Same here. Traffic in my site with no PBN links went up. Keyword rankings are not moving up AT ALL when sending PBN links. In fact, some rankings go down after I send a website a PBN link. And this is with a trust flow 20+, 500+ RD, no spam, indexed PBN link
does your pbn has 404 to homepage redirect?

Yes and no. A week ago none of them did. Now they all do. I was testing them, but I'm not sure if it made a difference.

I deleted all the content off the pages that got hit...they bounced back - not as high, but came back to within 20 places of the original ranking. I've added new content with less KW density (it was only 1.1% before mind!) and will see how it goes.
What I'm finding odd though is that there are numerous competitors with way higher KW density (4%+) and way higher exact match anchor text (40%+), who have 8+ H3 tags all of which have the keyword in it whose rankings have not changed, so it can't be just one factor, i.e. over optimization or they'd have been hit as well.
Oddly enough, a page that wasn't ranking, is more 'over-optimized' than the pages that got hit and has no backlinks (yet has a shed load of social signals) went into the top ten.
I can't make head nor tails of it.
