Quick tip to increase your organic reach

You guys surely noticed that you can no longer "act as your page"?

If you'd like to comment as your page, you gotta switch user at the comment form, right? You no longer stay logged in as your page. It's been that way for a few months.

So what did I realize? That before this change happened, I had "liked things as my page".

I went to look and voilà : a certain page used to "like and follow" a bunch of unrelated pages.

What did I notice? That a lot of my likes and reach were about a certain subject, even though my page is not related to that subject!!! I post something related to A, and get no reach. But then I post related to that specific subject and get 200 shares instantly.... WTF????

Then it downed on me : my former page likes were directing my posts to people who also like those pages.

So I went and unliked every single thing the page used to like..... Bam. Instant reach boost across the board cuz my page is no longer tied to those audiences.

A lot of people complain about losing organic reach since a few months ago. It may be related to this after all. Hope it helps.

So the newsfeed algo is directing posts to only subset fans of these pages, makes sense. But also isn't it mean that if you have liked a lot of pages in your niche then it should increase the reach? I have a page with around 5k likes and It has liked all the pages in the niche and still the reach is at most 5% for normal posts which used to be 10+ always.

I've been experimenting with this.

My organic reach increased by reducing the number of page-likes on other pages.

My main question is: my pages had liked a bazillion other unrelated pages. Maybe the audience of the unrelated pages was the problem. Maybe liking tightly related pages is good, but I haven't tested this yet. All I know is that by removing unrelated pages the reach and response has improved. Maybe a coincidence, but I'm sharing this here to see if I get similar feedback.

Quick update here: seeing a nice increase in organic reach and likes....this is over 2 weeks after I cleaned up the page likes.

I also went around looking at competitor pages and noticed they had cleaned up and had one or two listings only on the sidebar.

Pretty sure it's facebook's way of being greedy and wanting you to boost your page.

It's happening to every business and the only solution is to pay to play.

Sure, we've discussed that at length here.

But this is different somehow....I am seeing real improvements.
