I'd have to disagree. Here's the cycle of a popular internet meme:

Starts on one website (usually 2+2chan or 4+*****)
Gets posted to Reddit
Gets posted on 9gag, instagram, facebook, twitter, etc
Gets posted on KnowYourMeme, Encyclopedia Dramatica, etc
Gets reposted all over Reddit
Gets reposted on 9gag, insta, facebook, twitter, etc
Gets used to death, even in situations where it doesn't make sense (see: Harambe)
Becomes unfunny and dies

Thanks to the internet, the life cycle of memes and comedy is constantly changing. The text over picture memes are the worst ones.

So... We need to finally agree to disagree. Case closed.
