You need to fix this. Work on yourself once you return from your honeymoon. Talk to @alwaysinvisible. She is also a writer, also a female, but is extremely kind and is probably the person I would trust most on here as far as high-level writing skills as a career. Her or @Jared255.



If you want my honest opinion, when you return from your vacation you should try and get a part-time job somewhere doing some form of customer service. I have heard that being a barista at Starbucks is lucrative and people are generally nice compared to other positions. Work from home is a great gig, but lacks a lot of the social effect. Much like homeschooling children.



Again, see above. A customer service job would fix this as well. I spent a couple years at a Subway making sandwiches for assholes, and then a couple years at a massive hotel, getting some of the most rigorous customer service training in the USA, and came out the other end as someone who people notice knows how to deal with and talk to people. Writing is written communication, face-to-face is kicking it up a notch and doing it live.



Again, see above. Customer service will force you to talk to strangers and develop your social skills. Worked wonders for me.



You have no baseline at which to measure that metric.



$10 for a 100 word article is $10 per 100 words. $10 for a 500 word article is $2 per 100 words. That varies wildly. Give me a number. I'm not as much interested in your life story as I am to discern your writing style. As you can see, I can write just fine. I have taken incredibly advanced writing courses from recognizable authors and journalists. What I don't have is 50 hours a day to write articles. That's where I outsource.

That's not even close to what I've been making for years now. I charge at least $10 per 500 words. Independent contractors have to pay both their portion and their employer's portion of taxes, so their expenses are usually higher than employees. I have to consider that before I take work.

My point really was this - if you have too much work you put your prices up to get less work at same money. But if you have too little work you put your price down to get more work and more money.

I understand you were coming from a place of giving good advice. I'm really just venting my frustration over the fact that I basically "lost" my job because my contract got reduced so much that I don't really know what to do anymore. I was making plenty of money, and now it's hardly any. I don't know what the heck to do, and I can't stand not making enough money. It's just really frustrating, thinking everything would be ok job-wise and then it's not. My social anxiety only makes it worse.

Try the alcohol diet, it works wonders. Just have two for breakfast, two for dinner and several for tea, and wave bye bye to social anxiety till the next day, where it is slightly worse than the day before due to alcohol intake.

Eight years ago, I was very much like you. I had to literally force myself to do things involving huge crowds of people. I took public transportation. I went grocery shopping. I went to conventions, concerts - anywhere there was a huge crowd of people. I did this on purpose, because I cannot live life inside of the bubble/safety of my house.

I hyperventilated every time I was in a situation like that for about two years. I had horrible panic attacks. But I kept doing it.

Now? Now I'm a lot better. I do public speaking events now. And I rarely ever have a panic attack - I usually have one after my speeches and demonstrations are over. No one cares. No one judges me. Even if they did, I wouldn't honestly give a rat's ass.

I held two full time jobs in my lifetime, both in retail/customer service. I HATED those jobs. But I worked them every day because I had to learn how to deal with people. We are all on this planet together, and we are all brothers and sisters. We are not creatures that are meant to live alone. No creature is. Every creature congregates with its own kind. Even bacteria and germs stick together.

That being said, I want to commend you for forcing yourself to do things. No one can tell you how to deal with your social anxiety, or how it makes you feel. But continue to push yourself. It's when you socialize that you start to make connections and network with other humans. Then you may be able find another job through someone else, or find a relationship that's lucrative/beneficial for you in another way.

I understand your frustration. In the future, please don't rely on one method for your money. I had to learn that too. Writers go through feast and famine cycles. When it's good, it's really good. We can hardly keep up with the work. But when the work dries up, we're scrambling. So try to take on at least two to three clients.

Know your limits though. Most writers can only handle five clients at any given time. That doesn't mean you should only have five clients. I've got clients I work for every month, and clients who come to me once every six months. So figure out how much you can handle collectively, then go from there.

Sherbs is an extremely helpful person. I'd advise you take him up on his offer. $150 is better than nothing. Also, if you do a good job, he can become a regular client. When he finds a writer he likes, he sticks with them, and he's very understanding. I say this from experience.

I'd advise you to change your rates immediately. You are worth more than $10 per 500 words. You have a skill, and you should be proud of that skill and charge accordingly. This is also something I learned here.

Trust me. I've been there. I've lived a lot in my 32 years. The one thing I learned is that no man is an island.

We are all on this planet together, and we are all brothers and sisters. We are not creatures that are meant to live alone. No creature is. Every creature congregates with its own kind. Even bacteria and germs stick together.

That being said, I want to commend you for forcing yourself to do things. No one can tell you how to deal with your social anxiety, or how it makes you feel. But continue to push yourself. Then you may be able find another job through someone else, or find a relationship that's lucrative/beneficial for you in another way.

You're very welcome! One thing I recommend is that you double your prices. You've been doing this for ten years. Honestly, you should be charging at least 10 cents a word, but if you're not comfortable with that then charge four cents a word. If you're following my guide and going after professional clients, charge a MINIMUM of ten cents a word.

There's tons of info on how to monetize blogs on here. Most people use Adsense but you can also use CPA offers and content lockers. @BassTrackerBoats can give you more advice on this. He has some news sites that he monetizes, so he can point you in the right direction.

Thanks! I've actually only been doing the news article rewriting since sometime last year (I can't remember exactly when I started that- time flies!) However, I have been doing copywriting stuff on and off for almost the full ten years. So, I guess technically I have been getting paid to write for almost ten years. I started working for my "client" in 2007, and at the time I was actually working in the office as an employee for about 3 years. I was in the marketing department, but I did a slew of tasks from copywriting to billing customers to tech support, you name it. Then, in 2011 after I had moved to a different state, they offered me a work-at-home contract through a different company they formed. That is when I started doing other work for them, and then the news article rewriting. I've actually done some Wordpress maintenance too, but it was tasks they specifically told me to do, so I'm not sure if I actually have "experience" with that. It was basically installing/changing plugin settings, running certain plugins, etc. I think the 4 cents per word is probably better for me until I gain more experience with other clients before I feel confident enough to charge more.

LOL, maybe I could afford the alcohol diet if my contract didn't get reduced! Seriously though, I have an alcohol and caffeine sensitivity, this would probably make things a lot worse in the long run.
