These days youtube is a clusterfuck though so unless you've got some other means of monetization rather than youtube ad revenue or just love making videos I would advise against starting a youtube channel in the hopes of $$$$

What I meant when I said that YT is a clusterfuck is that many niches are unsaturated to the point of no hope. I don't doubt that there is still money to be made, but it isn't like before where you can post a good quality video and expect to get views; niche selection and marketing strategy are stuff you have to consider now to stand out in the crowded world of YT in many niches.

I also believe that on YouTube, short-term financial gain without an external monetization structure is also extremely unlikely

yes i mean grow up is they using some ways to bring viewers or just the keywords

I can't say for sure how those sites began, but they seem to be producing content people want to see. It probably gets shared around a lot and ppl follow them.
