Is it pointless to try to rank with big competitors?

Hello, if results on the first page for my keyword have Walmart, Target, Amazon, etc, is it even possible to try and rank for that keyword? My research shows that the keyword has around 10k searches monthly. Thanks for any help.

It depends what the keyword difficulty is? The big retailers may not be optimized and you can out rank them. I have done before and my current sites compete against them.

It is not at all pointless. In-fact if you succeed in getting the 1st page rank then i believe you already know how much quality traffic you will get. And ranking depends upon many factors. Search this community you will get many help.

It is possible. It is a matter of looking if they are just ranking based on authority alone. You must checked their post that is ranking for that keyword to see if the page is optimised for it and if they have strong links to them(important).

To give you an idea, on keysearch.co, I had a site top 3 with 4400 US searches and a score of 29, top 10 with a difficulty of 31 with 22200 searches and one of 60500 searches with a difficulty of 36, that was the hardest one. The top 10 has Amazon, Target, eBay and manufacturers, you may not get 1st place, but if you have similar keyword variations, then hit them too and rank multiple keywords top 10, the traffic adds up and presume this an Amazon affiliate site, so will the sales.

Short answer : NO
Amazon, Target, Cnet, Consumerreports, etc google rank them because of their high authority.
To find the difficult of your keyword, look at google page 1 and 2, only analyze sites that focus on that keyword. See their on page and off page seo.

- and.. it takes 6 month to 1 year of hard work to see result unless you have good $$$ and know what you are doin... good luck

It took me 4 months from January until May to rank on page one for a similar keyword in the niche with a difficulty of 25 and 6600 searches. I started to back link the keyword with 4400 searches and difficulty of 29 in May and 5 weeks later it was on the first page, currently it ranks #2 or #3, this was with 10 expired tumblr back links.

I started a new site last month, I'm looking at 4 keywords, scores of 18, 19, 23, 27, total searches 3600, using my web 2.0 network and the keywords are around 32 to 65 on 18/12/2016, but I only started back linking last week.

It is possible to rank for it. But it will take time. Like @Tribal Fusion said, try ranking for similar keywords. Am currently targeting keywords that has all the biggest sites in the top 10 to 20. And I have broke into the top 20 for now.

You can do it with the help of pbn ,but you might need a lot, but even getting on page 1 will get you thousands of traffic.

Popular keywords peopke also look at the page there on .

Example if a user search amazon, most people will look at the whole search page ,and see if there any other website ,compitioning amazon products and prices ......

There are some keywords for which Google tends to rank e-Commerce sites better. But nothing is impossible obviously. Google is not a human but an algorithm. Keep trying with stronger backlinks than them. If that doesn't work even after trying 4-5 months, introduce an e-com section on your website and try again. I have had success with this method before.

It's all about the niche, pick an easy one or find an easy one, this is isn't easy mind you. I found my latest niche by walking around malls and markets in Bangkok, scribbling down ideas and then researching them on keysearch, then narrowing down the niche further lol

You are doing Keyword research raw. I usually go to big websites with multiple niches. There I get my keywords.
