Olden, so now that hostgator is messing things up by limiting the crons job on our forums, what host do you recommend that we use?

i am using godaddy for my autoblog and their i am running cron per minute.

But before taking godaddy hosting confirm recommended hosting from Op

I've had FG for a few months now, Hostgator only a week or so ago sent me the dreaded email. I'm currently looking for a new host and would welcome oldenstylehats input on that.

For those that already have it, does it bring in traffic to your forums?

Have had over 200 real users join one of my test forums, about 5% of those post. Traffic is pretty good with up to 100 uniques every day.

How good is the content it's posting in the forums?

Are posts relevant to threads?

Mike, it really depends on your keywords, and how relevant the source of the content. Content is scraped from several sources including Answerbag, sometimes the content can wonder off-topic so to speak, but the postings do look natural (because they are), but correct keyword choice is the answer to your question.

I'm usually one that catches on very fast as to how to use various tools effectively, but I'm not "getting it" on this one.

Can someone explain how I can use this to promote my money site? Let's say I have a "Toaster" review site that is loaded with Ebay Aff ads. Can I create a forum (or two) as an element in a link wheel and promote the snot out of the main site? Maybe put banners to my money site prominently throughout the forum...maybe rotated 50/50 between promoting the money site and Adsnese banners?

The part I'm really interested is how can this tool be used to funnel link juice to the money site? Or is that not the objective of the tool?

I'm sure I'm just missing one piece of the puzzle and it will all become clear for me once someone hands me the missing piece.

I'm excited to announce that earlier this week we finished negotiating a sizable discount on hosting that will absolutely support FG. I think of Forum Generator like a power tool with interchangeable tips. If I'm trying to develop a new site, I use it as a content generator to keep the spiders coming back for more and to make users feel more comfortable about signing up. Users are much more likely to sign-up to a site if they see active users and recent posts. That is just one use, though.

When I'm working on promoting a site, I use it to stick different pieces of my link networks together. Let's use the toaster review site you gave as an example. Let's assume that you already have a link wheel of Web 2.0 properties, bookmarks, blogs, splogs, etc that you used to promote your review site initially, but you're stuck in the 30's, 40's, and 50's on Google for your main keyword. If you wanted, you could promote your money site directly with a handful of forums generated by Forum Generator and you'd most likely see an increase in rank.

However, how I would personally use FG in this case would be to gather up a bunch of lists of my web 2.0 properties, deep links and all, and dump them into a few different forums. I'd make the themes of the forums pretty general, evenly distributing more and more on-topic keywords across all of them. I'd then use them to promote the outer layer of my link network and one another.

What eventually happens is that your web 2.0 properties get extra link juice, which then passes on extra link juice to your money sites. Could Google catch on? Possibly, but I've used similar methods to rank for relatively competitive keywords many, many times and only when I've gone nuts and tried to send too much juice have I ever seen them cause a drop in rank. These are first impressions for a new user for FG, but I have a lot of experience with servers and scripts

Firstly, I think the name, Forum Generator gives people the wrong impression, since FG is an automated user creator and automated poster for an existing standard phpBB forum. You must create a standard forum before installing FG specifically for that forum. This factor practically eliminates any chance of footprint or fingerprint issues.

FG scrapes genuinely keyword-specific content that is very suitable for faking a forum post. FG intelligently makes on-topic replies to that initial post over time. These auto-generated replies... well, I personally find the most incfredible aspect of this script. The users and posts look genuine from day 1 and it stays that way. I'm a veteran content spinner and I've never seen any concept produce results this good

This script also provides all of the following:

* Very good design with a slick interface for managing settings and keywords.

* Simple in operation. Practically maintenance free once set up.

* Includes a keyword suggestion tool that by itself is excellent.

* Comes with excellent support that gets back promptly.

The entire idea is brilliant and incredibly well thought out.

Will you get caught?

Firstly, all any one will every see for certain is a phpBB forum... that is the master stroke of this concept. However, un-natural growth can get a domain in trouble regardless of what is creating the content pages

I'd say the chances of that are very slim unless you go crazy and create 100's of users and posts too fast. IMHO, search engines are now processing date/time info for each page... by comparing the results of succeeding indexes and in many cases getting actual posting date/time data. Search engines are looking for un-natural growth patterns, and that's pretty easy to do for them.

The advantage of a forum site is that a search engine will recognize what type of site it is... and I feel certain search engines accommodate the fact that forums grow faster than blogs and static websites grow.

That is a footprint that works in your favor. It's pretty darned easy to look at page code and recognize a phpBB forum, or a vBulletin forum, or a wordpress blog, or a Joomla site.

So over a given time, however you get users and posts... your phpBB forum can accumulate many more "pages' containing your backlinks... much safer that jamming up too many posts to a blog.

If the FG plan is to go slow and natural with your posting, you have an excellent chance of building a long term asset on a single domain and getting links that stick around.

To avoid detection, it would be much better to buy more domains, then create additional forums including FG on the same topic and same keywords and URLs. Much safer than jamming too many posts on one forum. And remember that while each posts is very short(which is one reason they seem genuine) search engines consider each topic a single "page" and the Replies by other users added to each topic over time by this FG script... that just keeps increasing the value of each topic "page" on each succeeding spider visit. Do this with slow settings and I think it will be perfectly natural growth pattern.

My hat's off to the blackhatzen crew. Forum Generator is a brilliant concept.

Are you looking into changing this in near upgrades? I don't think it would be difficult to create a script modification that will change users join dates to make it look more realistic. If so when do you think an update will be available?

In the mean time, do you know of any third party scripts or add-ons or how I can manualy change the user join dates in a phpbb3 forum?

Replies to threads would only come at 15 minute intervals and much less randomly.
