Best WP plugin for capturing emails/emailing them a download?

I'm looking for a WordPress plugin that I can use to capture emails (for my email list) with in order to automatically send the person a download/zip file so they can download their free item that they just signed up for.

Any suggestions on what works best for that?

Unclear exactly what you mean -

If the free item is a general link, optinmonster is fine for capturing the emails. Very good for opt-ins in general. They have examples of all type of "free for signing up" emails you could create.

I have never found a free, useful, non-branded opt-in.

But - optin-monster does NOT do the emailing. You're going to need to sign up for something else to do that part. I'll assume you have this part down, but if you don't:

Mailchimp is free for 2000 email addresses, and has nice segmented and grouped options so if people sign up on a separate page they can go to a different group etc.

In general, if you want to do this entirely for free, you can skip Optin-monster, use a free Mailchimp plugin, or some other plugin that sends the emails to your list software, and grab emails with a form (usually with a shortcode). Your conversion will be lower, but this will do the trick.

In mailchimp, you'll create a welcome message that includes the download link.

You could also add "automation" so that they get more stuff.
