I'm sure we all saw (and started salivating) when Huffington Post launch the beta of the Contributor Platform. Finally, we can all post and publish without having to pitch editors or get approved for a byline. Sure HuffPo will not work to promote these contributor post without editorial review, but it seems these posts are blocked from search indexing making them useless to me.

It seems odd since post the comparable Buzzfeed and Engadget platforms are indexed with little effort. But after reviewing I wasn't able to find any regular (i.e. non-promoted) post from the contributor platform in the index for Google or Bing.

I have two posts on HuffPo via the contributor platform that posts that I've actively worked to get indexed. One post having backlinks from three indexed pages and over 1000 social signals (including an indexed google plus post) logically it would be indexed by Google bring some form of robots.txt or spider spanker.

My questions are:

1. Can these pages be indexed without the aid of an editor at Huffpo ?
2. If so; How?
3. If not; How do you make use of these articles for SEO (don't say it's about branding)

I have a similar situation w a different pub just as big. After dilligent research I settled on using the first 4 sentences of my articles on my own websites as a description, with the main image above, however inatead of clicking on a read more link that takes the reader AWAY from my site to the pubs. I created a sep blank page, embeded an i frame and linked that to pubs site to my article. Instead now, reader remains on my site (reducing the TABS (atqken Away By Squirrels - lost in some abyss to a place I wrote an article for...chasing squirels)

Hope that helps. Very interested to see what the answers are to your other questions. I do not have those answers.

op i didn't read your full post but i saw someone saying posting a high quality 3k words post cam help. But i am not 100% sure about it.

Good ideas.

I'm testing running a facebook ad targeting Huffpost editors. I got published in Techcrunch by running a Facebook ad to a Google doc targeting TC editos with the text "Techcrunch should publish this" so maybe it will work.

In the meantime, I'm looking at how Reddit posts are indexed and it seems like perhaps it would help to run a $5 ad on Reddit (it avoids the community outrage) to see if the Reddit link to the Huffington Post is indexed. That way the post will still appear for search terms, but the huffpost backlinks are still a dead waste of time.

I want to become a contributor of Engadget. Can anybody send me the sign up link of contributor account?

I'm running a test of driving social signals via a few Fiverr gigs, plus $40 targeted Facebook Ads to drive legit traffic. Will see if that works.

FYI, an article here claims social signals did the trick: https://www.pbnbutler.com/first-********-link-huffington-post/

Any update on your tests?

Or anyone learn more about indexing HuffPo Contributor posts?

I know someone who got a post promoted. It took a retweet from Mark Cuban. I'm not wasting my time with huff post again. I'll write for Medium.

1. Can these pages be indexed without the aid of an editor at Huffpo ?

In my experience, no.

The reason this happened is easy if you think about it.

There's no way they could open the platform up to everyone and not expect it to be abused by SEO spammers to death.

Therefore, they've decided to play marketers for chumps.

They dangle the name of Huffington Post, but then make you promote the article.

2. If so; How?

From my research the only way is to get the article enough reads and social signals to get it noticed by the HP team.

Try testing driving cheap Facebook ads and/or buying social shares from the HP post.

3. If not; How do you make use of these articles for SEO (don't say it's about branding)

It's relatively worthless for SEO.

It may have some limited use for PR or online reputation. You can say you were a featured writer in HP and use the logo on your website.

That's about it.

Yes it can be indexed article from contr.platform and as no follow to get some SEO power.

You're going to have to do some explaining as everything I've seen suggests you're incorrect. To the best of my knowledge, the only way to get a post from the contributor platform indexed is to be promoted off the contributor platform by an editor.

If you have a method please share. If not please STFU.

Click on view page source and you will see in the meta that the page is set to noindex, nofollow so matter how many links you build or how many social signals you send to the contributor post it won't get indexed! Unless it gets reviewed and promoted by an editor.

Use social bookmarking and submit site to Google. Also, submit the links to alltop!
