Well for many of us the black hat part is just a technique used within a solid business. SEO is not the end, it is the means to an end, and black hat has for many years contradicted Google as to what really works on their algorithm. Many things I learned from black hat SEO I now put in practice in white hat ways, so black hat SEO is not necessarily wrong. Seems like you're making the move from SEO being all to adding SEO to a bigger mix of things. In other words, you're maturing

Lol at the children on this thread. He's 100% correct. Facebook/Insta/etc... hit 'n run blackhat marketing isn't sustainable. A well built business however in an industry that can scale, can make you a shitload of regular, passive money for a long period of time.
Having said that the blackhat shit still makes good money. Even OP has made 70k from it.

You should describe more what you are quitting, are you quitting Internet Marketing? Quitting SEO?
Either way you are lucky, you have programming skills. You just did not focus hard enough on building a real online business, and once you have spent 3 years and not having earnings, its easy to just give up.
But honestly I see where you are coming from. I kinda felt the same way after my 1st 3 year stint, but really I just did not have a real sense of building a business, I would just do spam methods.
Honestly you might be better off, you could waste 3 more years if you are not cut out for this. Its too bad you had more success than most people. Being able to program is a good advantage, APP makers are banking now as well as programmers who create bots for internet marketing and SEO.
If you have a good job it might not be a bad decision, especially if it pays well. This shows you what happens you new folks, if you don't build long term strategies like a website.

And why did u wanted to share it with us? If u have been doing it now since three years and u didnt see the success its defo ur own fault. It doesnt matter if its blackhat oder whitehat methods it depends on u how much ur willing to work cause both ways u need to work but if u found a way making serious money without working fell free to text us I guess we would all stop with our actuall jobs. Blackhat in the end is just a way of giving ur sites a unnatural push via different methods to rank better. Cause to tell u from my site Im a developer as well but how can I make money with the best application in the world if Im not able to publish my application. Thats why I focused on Massmail, Mass SMS, Mass MMS, and multiple other channels to generate a huge amount of traffic. Like u said things change so fast so u actually also noticed it with pure "Whitehat" methods and without investing a huge amount of money u will never get really successfull cause where should the traffic come from? U actually dont understand that the internet is allready runned by a few companys and they will hand u nothing for free.
So if ur not pushing ur traffic Im sure u will have no traffic or do u really thing for example FB is "whitehat" pure? Just thing about how they started or do u thing google themself is doing everything exactly after theyre rules? And arent these 2 also serious business?
Anyway if u would like to work as webdeveloper for other companies I wish u good luck cause nobody will just hand u a job there are multiple better developer and cheaper ones outside sitting in Thailand and so on and making the market really hard cause if ur not in a poor country with lowlife cost u arent able to hold the prices theyre offering.
So Im sure as Freelancer for developing webapplications against the actuall competitors like u have been writting here u would have no chance. I can tell u from my experience I lost this year 2 good customers cause Im to expensive in theyre opinion.
Dont blame everything that doesnt work it could also be ur mistake cause for other people its working as serious business.

Look it depends on what you are doing, your goals and your niche. I can see how going BLACK black hat might not work for a lot of situations and OP is probably one of those. But make no mistake, SEO in general should DEFINITELY be part of the equation of ANY successful internet venture. If you skip out on SEO just because your 2011 spam tactics stopped working then you're missing out.
