How Far Can FREE Link Building Take Me?

I have one journey/case study up already, where I express disappointment in the prices and effectiveness of most blackhatworld SEO packages, and use cheap shit in order to rank. Results of that so far:

Now I'm doing something on a different one of my sites. I want to see how far I can get by doing manual link building rather than paying for packages. Current rankings:

I dont see the difference in you manually building the links and you buying the same links you manually build.

No PBNS, Web 2.0s,submissions, forums, etc.

1. Pick a niche
2. See what links are pointing to the AUTHORITY sites in that niche
3. Get dem links

I'm also going for easy submission so I don't spend a ton of time on a single link.

You just have to find the right sellers.

Sure, I like to know what I'm paying for though. One competitor I have on a different niche/site is outranking me, so i checked his backlinks. One of them linked me back to a fiverr seller - beating my BHW packages. Further disillusionment.

I won't really know the value of a link until I build them manually.

Your doing it manually that called white hat.

Blackhat you use bots/tools to get links to get you fast results.

For example ,if you buy a app called scrapebox ,you can find all you competition backlinks, and find all the good links and register them to your website and then add more to beat your competition.

Doing all that manually just takes ages why many go blackhat and use bots/tools

Total newb here, just made an account, but what is AUTHORITY sites in your niche? I don't mind doing it manually as AHREFS said i'd only need about 1-10 backlinks to rank in the top for the keywords i have targeted.

What does it mean to link your website to the AUTHORITY sites?
