So I've a lot of unique contents and have a fair understanding of on-page SEO, which seems very managable to me.

Off-page SEO on the other hands seem to require a lot of connection and capital, can you rank a semi-competitive keyword on your website without going the off-page route ?

If you have experienced this before, please give some comments, thank you :)

You can rank low competition keywords with ease just by doing on page seo. At least I did...

As for mid competition keywords... I can't talk...

I am sure technically you could on some keyword in some niche somewhere but realistically by nature of it being a semi competitive keyword you will need some links

Seo is very volatile, with just onpage and good content i have moved many keywords to page 1 buy not on top 3 spots.

Google consider three important factors while ranking any web-page in a search result.

Relevancy -How relevant is web-page / website to the keywords query of the visitor?

Authority - What is the authority of the web-page / website over the web?

User Experience – How easily visitors can access the web-page / website?

So without earning good authority it’s bit difficult rank higher a website in search result but not impossible. Still you can rank in Google for long-tail keywords. Specially these days people start using long-tail keywords while searching in Google.

So if your website is relevant and providing good user experience then you can easily rank higher in search result. Suppose if you are providing valuable content that visitors want to read then automatically you will earn lots of link because everyone loves to out-link the good & valuable content.

3 important factors -

Authority = quality and relevant backlinks + links from Google seed sites (.gov, .edu, .org, news websites)

Relevancy = valuable & relevant content + optimized meta tags + optimized Images with alt text + proper internal-linking + proper technical seo(canonicalization, robots.txt, xml sitemap+ 301 redirection)

User Experience = optimized load time (Mobile Speed) + responsive website + easy to navigate + custom 404 page

Don't listen to that joker who said ranking with on-page SEO is impossible and "dangerous" (Seriously? Dangerous?). Several members, including myself, have done it, although doing only on-page SEO does come with its own set of problems. For example, if one of your competitors notices that you're not building backlinks, they may try to take advantage of this and outrank you (rather easily) with backlinks. Then there's the issue with the lack of low competition keywords in certain niches. As an example of that, one of my clients has a local business in a niche where there are very few low competition keywords, especially since I had to use city name keywords.

I can go on and on about the pros and cons of ranking a site without any off-page SEO, but it's just something that you're going to have to look into and determine whether or not it's worth the time and effort.

Yes, of course you can get good ranking on search engine pages for your keywords with on page only, on page contributes 28% in getting search engine ranking. So the on page is the main factor for ranking your keyword, you can rank low competitive keywords.

Yupp you can if the one's ranking on the top for your KW are not doing any link building

I dont pay nothink to get to the top of a hard keyword , might take me 6 months on fresh content with a headphone and mic but i always found content is king.

Must do keyword research and good articles with embedded images and video

You can also can add images and video ,does help.

The only thing i think cost is 2.0 list , gsa list , and domain for pbn that it.

You can rank for low competition keywords with no external links. With excellent on page, relevancy and internal links , you can push a low competition keyword into the top 3.

Yes it is possible but still search engines will require signals to your domain from other resources. So do some off-page and social shares, this will help your pages have good relations with search engines.

Doing proper on-page SEO is around 70% of the job, which leaves only 30% for off-page. Going by the numbers, it is absolutely possible to get good rankings without doing the backlinks stuff.

Make sure that you've run the checklist and you have all of the following:
  • unique page titles
  • meta descriptions
  • SEO friendly URL
  • good page speed
  • responsive design
  • internal links
  • sitemap
  • robots.txt with necessary pages
  • etc. (if you're interested, you can look for this article: On-Page SEO: Anatomy of a Perfectly Optimized Page (2016 Update)
I personally would try to do everything I could for ranking high. Off-page is not as intimidating as you seem to think it is. And, unless you run a non-profit, it is an investment worth making.

Yeah, it is possible, but doing both ON-Page and OFF-Page SEO is the best thing to do. I don't see any reason why you should not do Off-page SEO. In fact, doing them both brings more positive and good result rather than doing ON-page SEO alone.

its possible but not about zero backlinks nowadays, you can success with minimal backlinks

The only "danger" I see with not having off-page SEO is that someone can blast your site with a billion dirty links and screw you up.

You do need some link reputation in order to be safe from this kind of sabotage.

For a mid - competitive keyboard the possibilities of ranking on top is an Yes and a NO.

Yes - If you've got a strong site with real healthy and unique content that attracts traffic and also a blog that has fresh content every time provided your competitiors should be on the same level as you (No OFF Page Done)

No - It depends on your competitors because even with a small Off Page Strategy, you can be pushed nowhere to reach the top position anytime sooner.
