I follow these sites pretty regullary, : www. filmux .org and www . filmai . in

The owners basiclly upload riped movies, series, animes. The first one is free(BUT IS HEAVILY FLOODED WITH ADS), the second one is paid subscription type. they are both highly illgegal, they both have fake whois, and they both are up for a loooong ass time. (they are based in eastern europe and only target one country) (the first one was up for long, but named .net, but later switched for some reason to .org..)
The question is what can i gain from this info?

These are not my sites though just interested to see what you guys say about those.
Not a lot of ad based sites I see in my country, these are realisticly the biggest ones.

I see an oppoortunity with a site like this, i see they mostly use russian video sites to upload the videos, but these should be high maintenance sites - constantly searching and uploading new movies etc.?

Realistically, the owner has probably automated everything. It probably scrapes IMDB and popular movie sites and torrent / streaming sources for the movies themselves. Doing this by hand is insane and would not scale.

Have you ever automated something like this? seems time consuming. I'm almost certain that he has to do at least something by hand - movie descriptions are translated well (that proves that not a shitty translator was used) the movies all are translated (i think he's using local trackers for translated movies) but still a lot of work
A quick search on google gaveme this info : he has a total of 3,6mil visits, and almost 50% bounce rate

Free traffic estimates are really off most the time.

Anyway, you'll have to research your competitor in order to find out how he does it, I have no idea about the specifics he used. If I knew I'd be cashing in
