I am #1 on Google, but ???

Been doing lots of link building and posting to get my position up. Well I hit #1 on a few keywords and first page on many keywords.

Problem is I am not #1 accross the board. If I log in from different proxy sites my rank is not #1, or even near it in some cases.

What is up with that?

Google has several different servers. Different people from different parts of the world will access it through different servers which will give different results.

It's odd that it fluctuates so much however, results are generally similar

Yep their algorithms and ranking systems are constantly changing, and have multiple factors on how and why you are going to rank where you rank. Geo-targetting being one of them.

Different contries have different rankings / algorithms so it should be close, but not the same

keeping multiple keyword rankings for one domain usually requires new links coming in daily

you could try deep linking on and off site to the pages that aren't getting results and also remove any negative effecting keywords or pages on your site

Its called geo-targeting. Certain results are seen as more pertinent for people from certain countries based on a variety of factors.

yes,exactly..i have a site that currently on first page and makes me money everyday..i checked using g.com, g.com.au (australia ), g.com.it (it) and a lot more..the results is sure not same but it don't differ a lot..

but,if you are selling..like me..i don't care about other..my main concern is US,UK and Canada only..these are country that most of people buy online..

Yes i had the same problem, I can't visit google.com cause it redirects to .com.mt so i use .co.uk and I noticed sometimes my site ranks #1 for .com.mt and not for.co.uk but theyr almost always on the first page just not in the same position.

Ditto. I'm glad you posted this query as I'm currently totally complexed about my own sites ranking.

I'm based in Bangkok and for my site anti-aging-reviews.info I see:

But all the soo tools I have tell me neither bling, google and or yahoo have me in the top ten.

Why would google.com search results for Thailand be geo-targeting me for number 1 and all the others not - plus its hosted by a U.S server if that makes a difference.

Not meaning to hijack your thread but also can't get my head round it or more importantly figure out a way to improve it apart from keep posting links which after 3 months has done didly squat.

what do you sell some digital product or it is shipping item ?
