So it seems that one of the more interesting features that Penguin Live has brought to Google is the notion of devaluing a link's juice rather than demoting the website it is point to as a whole. The article explains this a bit more, but what it essentially means is if I toss 10,000 spammy web2.0's links with stolen content and all the same few anchors at you it won't harm your site or your page, but rather Google will see the links as shit and simply assign them with the value of zilch. Meaning they essentially are ignored in theory. This is a far cry from how Google once operated where those links would have thrown a red flag and caused action against the whole page or website.

i just heard this things,
lets test it...

Yea, I guess it's the admission of a big flaw in their algorithm. Glad they fixed that one up :-)

I didn't read the article but I don't believe for one second that google doesn't come after spammy sites. call me a conspiracy theorist but i think they are just saying they won't so you get careless with your link building and they fuck you.

Glad they noticed this, at least they used their heads this time to fix this issue.

I think you have completely misunderstood the original post. Try and read through it again

From what i've seen over the last few weeks negative seo still works. However would like to keep checking over the next few months and see what impacts it has.

hey man, hows your site after penguin? so you added naked url instead of exact matches and your site is back to previous positions till now?

for mine - i had mad fluctuations all Sept and for the last 2 days all my KWs totally disappeared from serps.
what would u advice - abandon the site or try to fix the anchor ratio or smth else?

This is big. Will be curious to see how it plays out.

Negative SEO work as hell guys.I don\t agree with #http://www.blackhatworld.com/members/thophayt.206762/ and Mathew Woodward or what ever called his Surname when i read his Blog about Penguin 4.0 update.
Guys all if you can see on my profile latest thread I warned about this before anyone to know because I knew it that will happens. This update is just phase from process which Google started from end of 2015 with so called Mobilegedon and will evolve a lot. This means no web site owner can rank his web site without help of SEO specialist. This will bring us a lot of work.Just for 20 days I have 5 new clients begging for SEO of their web projects. All ranking will drop fast if you are in top 10 expect drop about 50-60 places.Don't expect increasing. Also you will see how ill start ranking some keywords that you don't even want to rank :).Final I totally disagree with conclusion that with latest update 4.0 of Penguin Negative SEO will be terminated.
Note:Facebook,Twitter and even it self Adwords disallow Black Hat PPC anymore because can't be done.Stop doing that anymore. This is related with latest update of Penguin 4.0 update :).
Cheers guys and hope all we will have full hands of work.

IF ( and it's a BIG IF) they will do this it just makes no sense.

So IF this is true all we have to do is keep building links by the thousands. Some will be OKish and will help rank, the rest will do no harm, right?

give me a break

Negative SEO. Far more than links. Shit links not having any value, bit like 1999 then......

Exactly back to 92. This is just hear say Charlie Floate nonsense drivel that has been preached by a "guru".

I agree.

He didn't misunderstand, I think like me he is reading between the lines - if Google are devaluing links on a granular basis then it means in theory that you can be much more aggressive with link building because bad links will just be individually devalued rather than getting your entire site blacklisted.

You're correct, they also said that even though most useless links will be devalued, manual action is still possible if they see too many spammy or suspicious links.

I know nothing about SEO, but here's my two cents:

Theoretically, link juice devaluation could be a better alternative to punishing a site that a spammy site has linked to as a way to discourage negative SEO. I don't think Google is trying to "trick" people into getting careless with link building, because the proof will be in the pudding in a couple weeks once the theory is tested. Remember that the same algorithm that detects spammy links from negative SEO and devalues their link juice will be the same one that tests the "more spammy" links that anybody doing careless positive SEO to their sites because of the Penguin update will build.

Thus, if Google is overly aggressive in punishing likes that look even somewhat spammy, it will simultaneously get rid of link-based negative SEO while keeping the difficulty of building link-based positive SEO the same. It's not an ultimatum of "either negative SEO goes away and positive SEO gets easy or negative SEO stays the same and positive SEO stays the same". I just don't see it that way.

Any thoughts on this?

I've just got negative SEO on my website, thousands of bad link I don't know how to do. :D So hmmmm not they didn't fix anything. Negative SEO works well, my website vanish to nowhere (from page1)
