How? I can't figure out how people do this.

I've been researching Facebook CPA for a while now, but I can't figure out how people spoof their URL in the Facebook preview!

This link, for instance (http://goo.gl/hmljQZ) appeared as this on my news feed:

Take note of how the link says it's from cnn.com, but the shortener resolves to a different link when followed through to it's source.

How does one do this? I've experimented with any manner of OG tags and can't spoof by manipulating them, so I'm at a loss.

Can you explain exactly how? Spoofing og:url simply takes OG data from the link within the variable. When it does this it overwrites og:image and og:title and the OG meta tags from og:url take precedence.

Can you post a working configuration of what you're taking about?

EDIT: It seems OG tags do not work for tricking facebook anymore, but for every other network.

Paste this into the header:

This works for Whatsapp & all other social networks, however I am not sure about facebook as they got a little smarter in recent times. I guess you also need to add a little JS script in order to achieve the results as above. The facebook crawler can't handle Javascript to well which is how you can easily trick it into believing you're sending your traffic to whatever website.

You're right, that last method does work, but it's not what I'm looking for. As you may know, using the last method makes Facebook automatically use the OG data from the site specified in og:url, while overriding any sort of OG data that you've specified.

What I'm looking for is the ability to both spoof URL's and then add in my own og:image and og:title without them being taken from the spoofed URL's website.

I've been doing a little bit more digging and it looks like whoever did this covered their tracks well. It's been about a day, and the goo.gl link redirects to something completely different and legitimate, the resolved URL isn't cached by any source, the PHP files in the redirect chain are read-protected, and the Facebook profile which the post was shared from looks 100% real.

What you can do is to simply use a URL shortner that allows you to change the destination url. This way you can post something from cnn and let the previewer grab all the information and change the destination afterwards. This however limits you as you can only use the stories from cnn itselfs and not your own...
