This freelancers' website is slowly turning into a mental asylum.

Got my account temporary suspended today because I posted a project which contained discrimatory / hateful remarks, threats, vulgarity, or profanity.

What did I write in the project description ?
I wrote that I wanted an english native speaker who lives in USA/Canada/United Kingdom.

Apparently that's really discrimatory.

Why discriminating Ireland? Thinkin that they speaks not so good as americans? what a shame.. what a shame...

I work on Upwork and I search the projects daily, I often see projects where 'native speaker who lives in USA/Canada/United Kingdom' - etc are mentioned. Are you sure because of this you got suspended?

Upwork has been going down the train for a while. Quality of jobs and freelancers has gone way down.

Lots of fake SEOs and "Gurus".

Lots of people who can barely write English applying for fluent positions as well

Oh god! That's why! Now I understand!
I spent over 20k on upwork and I feel more and more that I am dealing with a public administration.

The project description was an unique sentence: "I am looking for a writer, native english speaker, based in usa/canada/uk. I need 300words I pay $5."

I asked them the reason, no feedback yet.

I think someone (who does not live in those countries :p) flagged your project and it was auto suspended. Wait for the feedback.

You tried freelancer ? :) I`ve got some pretty neat results there :)

I don't like freelancer, freelancer over there are charging much more for the same quality.

I wished I could find good freelancers, who can issue invoices and have a long term partnership, but as in love, they give their best at the beginning and finally it ends with screamings and tears because they delivered shi**y work.

I have no affiliation with them, but I did end up working with some pretty professional guys there. To be honest, my first experience on freelancer was when I was scammed of $150, but that was on me for believing a stranger that offered no proof :)

Maybe pay a little more than $5 per 300 words.

No offense, but writers who send professional invoices and develop long term partnerships with someone don't usually hang out on places like Freelancer and Upwork. They prospect for their clients, get paid a decent rate and they wouldn't dare let their quality suffer bc it means their money is gonna suffer. They take their business very seriously.

Cheap writers are $1 a dozen. That's why they burn out fast, that's why they aren't worried about long term relationships, and that's why they hang out on places like Upwork and Freelancer.

Usually I pay $5 per 100-150 words, but always start with such project description. When I post directly $5/100 words, after the second milestone they always want to raise their rates.
I am sorry, but $5/100 is the best I can pay.

Anyway, I received the feedback from upwork: you can't write in your project description that you're looking for someone who lives in a specific country. It's discriminatory.

Guys I never went in the USA, I don't know how it's going over there, but "discriminatory" is the new trend?

I suppose I can see it as discriminatory, if I were a butthurt little b#tch.

Reminds me of those rental ads on craigslist that demand one gender with no reason given. One could say that's sexist, but people still do it.

Why would you need to write that in the description? When creating a job, target freelancers from those specific countries only. I haven't used Upwork anymore since it changed name & ownership, but I think you can do such basic targeting there, no?

Even if you set up the location in the freelancers' preferences, a ton of people from India/Pakistan/etc. apply.

Same logic with the description - even if you request native people from English-speaking countries, you will still get applications from freelancers in India/Pakistan, etc... So, there is no foolproof way, what you should do instead is screen the applicants and weed out all the time-wasting ones and then select a proper candidate from the remaining positions. By screening, I mean tests they should take, providing samples, talking in Skype, etc... (often depends on the kind of job).

It's political correctness taking over the planet ha ha ha.

Hi

Im really sorry about your experience with upwork. I can help you with good contents.

Oh, here you go OP! Here's your new writer right here!

Why are you even still there? That's just asinine; you can't even put what you want in the description bc it's "discrimination."

Wtf??

I'd leave and never go back.

There are writers in the BHW marketplace who charge $5/100 words. Have you tried them?

as a freelancer, i think upwork is a bit better than freelancer, i seen so much bad employers or others looking to munch off the freelancers in freelancers.com, if you want good writters, have you tried iwriter?

i have used it as a writer, and works quite well, if you want to know more about it even pictures just pm me ill show you all i can.
