Guys does anyone know how to get over camera shyness? I never filmed or streamed myself online before b/c of my bad social skills and shyness.

I will be training for and starting an online English tutor job which means you'll be showing your face and having to act professional and be interactive. You get bonus pay for how well the students like you etc etc

I'm afraid I'll screw it up, stutter, accidentally say something stupid & worst of all start blushing! (I'm very notorious for that). l'll have to be professional but how can I do that with the social retardation & all?

I want to do this well and hopefully be able to later quit my current crappy job, but like for most things you need good social skills to get ahead and get opportunities. Life stinks for the quiet/reserved

Any way to be comfortable on camera and avoid getting nervous and embarrassed? Especially since I never done this before it feels intimidating!

Please any advice would be appreciated!

Just practice a bit before you start. And who cares if you stutter or say something wrong.

Try filming yourself with a camera first and watching over the footage to find out how you can improve the way you present yourself.

Practicing with a friend is another option.

Start by pasting your boobs here. Or PM to me for review. I'll guide you further ...

You must have confident in yourself and must show eye contact

JJI! Just Jerk It.

Seriously tho.. Camera shyness is just like public speaking, it's something you will never "overcome", it's just something you get used/conditioned to. That fear, those butterfly's, those will always be there.

Exposure/repitition is the best way to conquer it. Practice makes perfect is a popular adage for a reason.

make a test video and show it to some friends or family to get advice of what is improvable.

What's the worse that can happen to you ?

A student smiling, 1 hour of bad time and then at the end of day every one forgot about it.

Nike covered it already : Just Do It! ;)

Just go and stand in front of the mirror and speak something that you want to speak in front of the camera. While speaking, keep contact with your eyes. So only you get confident and convey the message clearly without any shyness.

Try something like this:

If it works for dating, it can work for anything. Just make it more fun! Your students may like you for your unique way of presentation. After a few sessions, you can take it off and reveal your real face if you would like.

This isn't a game, I can't do crap like wearing a paper bag or whatever

The worst that can happen? I wouldn't get to keep the job. There's a probation period and you need a particular average rating

And what about blushing? That would make look bad. How are you supposed to control that

If the student(s) are nervous I would also feel uncomfortable. How do you talk to nervous students?

I will hold my breath, keep my expectations low and just try I guess.

Does this "fake it til you make it" really work for anxious people? Am I really stuck like this for life cause I don't want to always feel uncomfortable on the job since your earnings will be affected and I definitely don't want to lose out on this opportunity

I have the solution for you! Blushing?! Get there and show them the middle finger first lol.

This is going to sound odd coming from me, but go out and purchase some green primer and use it before each video. It'll alleviate any blushing you experience.

You need to be confident. Drink a little before tutoring, and go to the gym. Gym does wonders for improving confidence and shyness.

Lol, i was joking about a reply of another user. Are you serious?

Try creating a personae that isn't you. Act in front of the camera.

Its alot easier to pretend to be someone you're not that being yourself.

Also, this is something I used to tell actors all the time when I was directing: The only person that looks ridiculous is the one that is afraid to look ridiculous. If you own up to what you're doing, you'll look and feel natural.
