Following and unfollowing at the same time?

Can following and unfollowing be done at the same time or should they always be separate actions?

It should be separate and ideally not the same day. Otherwise there are good chances Twitter will consider your action as an aggressive behavior and then suspend you.

Probably, but if you follow several accounts then by mistake (or not) unfollow these lasts the same day there will be a great chance twitter will consider you action as aggressive.

Anyway, the risk of getting your account suspended is certainly higher when following and unfollowing the same day.

Been running my accounts for over a year and following/unfollowing more than 500 people a day and nothing ever happened. Obviously I don't unfollow on the same day..

Presently, I equally follow above 500 people a day but I keep few days in the week for the unfollow (above 500 people a day too). I have just re-started to use my two years+ old account that I stopped using (and stopped IM) during the last two years. Maybe twitter algorithm has changed since 2014.

It depends on how old your account is. I follow and unfollow 500 people a day on Twitter. Been doing that for 6 months now. No issue.
