I want to throw down 1st prize 500, 2nd 250 and 3rd 100 for an essay contest on my niche. 1st prize gets to hang out at the firm.

So the LP looks good, explains the topic of the essay. Looking for HS seniors and not undergraduates. But how do you go about getting link juice. I google (city)+high school+scholarship program and didnt find much.

Does any have a cool tactic for this or should I just go with college students and up the prize to 1k? I seen this done at my old firm but I was in the backroom doing PPC. We did end up with link juice from some crazy universities like UCLA, pepperdine, etc...

You could go with the 1k prize. look for students in facebook groups and present your offer ( there are plenty ), twitter is also a good platform, you could search twitter handles of colleges and from their list of followers get active students. I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to make a few connections.

My issue is most of the HS sites do not have a page for scholarship programs, it's only the college sites. We're trying to stay away from that to be most cost effective. I really do not want to give away 1k, maybe it's first prize and no 2nd and 3rd. When I do search queries, you see tons of college programs and you see the businesses out there for link juice, i just do not see in HS websites. Sucks, i feel like calling them and asking the webmaster to post up a dedicated LP on their site.

I would suggest you make friends with a few student bloggers, and maybe along the line they could publicize your offer.

Just so I am clear, you are hosting a competition for College students to get you backlinks or for BHW people to get them

I'm pretty sure most high schools would definitely be willing to put it on their website if you contact them.

i did it for

i hope so, im just going to go old skool and pick up the phone. i already collected a bunch of emails but i dont expect many replies that route versus calling locally. i'll let you know you guys know if it works out for HS edu backlinks to my site.

hey i have experience such thing, and i got around 30-50 links from universities , colleges on their scholarship Page. PM me if u need help

You'll get links but it is not really contextual and relevant to your vertical.

I'd rather spend that money on a HQ white hat link instead of getting links from a bunch of resource pages that have a hundred other links on there. Ya there .edu and maybe have some DA... but it just seems unnatural and low quality.

I hear you, but I'm going for HS and plan to talk to them about creating a simple landing page dedicated to the essay competition. I have seen dozens of universities with resource pages that dont hold much weight.

I'm going for the ghetto schools that will allow me to post up a dedicated page, no resource page. I got a few bites yesterday. And who knows, some ghetto schools might get excited and give us a spot on front page too.

I spend 1k a month on just that: findlaw, lawyers.com, justia, etc..I dont expect any leads of course but they all gave me a huge boost. Now it's time for the edu route.

Kinda in the same situation. I think the only option is to email the webmaster of High School so that they can list your scholarship.

yea i did that. but after doing for a few days it's best to call the actual school and talk about the admin office, get them hyped up and mention how the guidelines will be posted on their website (get webmaster info) then divert their attention back to the education essay contest. one is already going to put it in their school newsletter. and once they know it's legiti, they will most likely leave page up for next year 2017 contest, 2018, etc.....

It sounds like your making some very good moves and thought out decisions. The Scholarship campaigns I've been involved in have been contest driven. We've either asked for infographics or videos, then choose a winner. Once the landing page was setup up, we scrapped colleges and other .edu type sites, and then did mass outreach to inform them about the opportunity we had.

Typically we'd find our link on a scholarship resources page. Not very contextual but was good at the time. In the future I'd also like to focus on asking for it to be shared on social.

but if i do it in volume i will fell like a scumbag if im only able to pick 3 kids out of 40 schools. so i gotta think about gift cards too. a total investment of 500 bucks for hopefully 2-5 year permanent links from local schools in our area and possibly some natural social signals too.

nice yea, i had to put a disclaimer too about social shares, something along the lines of

By submitting an application, the applicant grants url.com permission to use the applicant’s name, school, and photo in marketing platforms. This can include, but is not limited to, url.com website, social media accounts, press releases, or other publications.

I like your idea too.

The problem is that I can't call them ... So the only way to actually reach out to them is using email outreach.
