If a site is basically a news blog, with new articles several days a week based on press releases or rewriting/compiling stories from major publications -- how do you SEO it?

It seems hard to write each article based on a specific keyword, when the topic varied according to whatever is in the news.

Any ideas?

You will have a hard time making it in the serps with a general news site. Need to be niche specific because you will never outrank the more established news sites.

You can get a lot of traffic from news by submitting it to news subreddits. They got a lot of those. Not really traffic related, but you're building backlinks so it will help somehow.

Do you have a specific niche? I would recommend doing some research to see what has a good mount of traffic and is not that impacted. Start there, and then grow into other niches, etc as you become more authoritative. If you want some more info ping me on skype: weknowseo1

It's a health-related niche -- actually a narrow niche, just one disease. I want to compile news every day or two in that niche. The articles will be "original" content based on press releases and other publications' articles. I plan to do my own writing or hire freelancers.

If I just write the articles in a natural, journalistic manner based on whatever news happens each day, will I eventually get search traffic? Or do I have to target specific keywords?

I expect to get social traffic, because I have a good-sized Twitter account in the niche. But I'm hoping for search traffic, too.

Yes you will get search traffic eventually if you continue posting helpful stuff. Might take awhile though.

Yeah i think you need to be niche specific, you will never outrank the more established sites.

Since you're rewriting instead of just aggregating, you should look for CITATIONS (or if you can get it, LINKS) from other lower-tiered news sources.

The best way to do this is to get active on news commentary blogs (conservative or liberal, it doesn't matter).

But do I need to think about specific keywords for every article, try to rank specific keywords, do keyword research, etc.? Or just start publishing the news and hope it starts picking up the search traffic naturally over time?

I have a news site that is aggregate like cnn can anyone help me rank it?or any ideas my hopes is to post ads o it. Not sure if I'm allowed post link because of not enough postings.
