A lot of pages (were?) using this trick. If you Google search
instagram "what.what.what"
you will see what I mean.
But I think it isn't working, any more? Because I have seen some pages with the endless what.what.what a few days ago. When I go to any of those pages in the Google search, it just shows the short l.instagram.com link, without the "what"s afterwards.

Soooo is anyone going to spit it out? What does it do to benefit the page?
I have no experience with it besides my observations above.
The really long "what.what.what" string makes it impossible to scroll down and see the person's photos.
So my guess is that it requires people to follow the account instead (so they can see photos when they are posted).

It's absolutely nothing! Somebody is fucking around trolling just trying to get people to think they have a secret.
l.instagram.com domain is called a link shim. Basically allows you to share a link on Facebook without someone necessarily having to follow you or be your friend. You can verify this by clicking this link :
http://l.instagram.com/?e=ATMhAEQta...s7zP-SqpdM3k0xTeZRqxQ&u=http://www.google.com which will open google in the Facebook browser on mobile.
Replace google.com in that link with whatever website you want and it will open in the Facebook browser.
So… My theory is that someone just figured that out and want to get a laugh out of people who would try it. Why do I think that? Because every Instagram account gets indexed by Google. So anything with that particular link show up in the search results. I think it's absolute bullshit

Then back it up. You don't have to give us a 12 page write up, but provide some proof that someone has used this in some meaningful way. Otherwise I'll continue to call BS.
At BEST, this is some kind of glorified buffer overflow exploit. When you view these profiles in the app, you don't even see the entire link. It truncates it to something like l.instagram.com/?e - and nothing happens. Nothing is hidden, nothing crashes. When viewed in a real browser, you see the entire link.
