How important do you think "first impressions" are?

Im thinking of starting over with one of my sites because from the start it didnt have much, and when i added more it was a hard time getting it to index. My main terms arent really ranking, they are all over page 4- page 10. I aimed two pbns at one page months ago and that page is at spot ~100. Its slow to index new pages. This is a local rank and rent site. So competition, even if my site was the worst performer, should put me page two or three max. I got the page speed down to 1 second, added 15 pages of 500+ words to it and it hasnt changed at all.

My new site, my first affiliate site started out with 16000 words, page load speed ~1 second or less. It appeared on page two for one of its terms in less than a week.

Im wondering if I should just start over on the first one.

OP have you submitted your sitemap yet? and try to fetch as google to help indexing faster. Second is, 2 pbn will not get you anywhere in case you're aiming for med/high competitions. Try to add more pbn and other tier 1 links.
