So I was just watching the latest Leafy video and noticed something odd in my VidIQ; "173k referrers, 7,260 embed srcs". When I hover over the referrers I noticed every single one that came up was either a Google book, a .gov source, or something "educational". What could this be and how is he doing it? Or is this the next big secret?? I've attached a screenshot to show what I'm talking about. If this is a service that can be bought, I would be interested for sure.

Also note this video was uploaded just a few hours ago. If these are "legit" sources, they are linking to this video VERY fast!

The channel has about 4000000 subs.So it will have alot referrers nothing new it's an authority channel.

Here's my thing though... How does the #1 channel, Piewdiepie, not have 200k+ referrers then? TVFilthyfrank also has over 100k referrers and they're random sites like "Uzbekistan travel" and things like that. This has to be a trick for ranking because other Authority channels don't have these crazy amounts of referrers like some do.

That does seem kinda strange maybe some ppl in here know the trick but don't want others finding out, I think u on right track.

Maybe... I'll ask around to some people and see what they have to say about it I guess... This must be something that is kept very quiet because I have not seen any methods or anything on this

This is very suspicious/interesting. With that said, I never trusted this Leafy guy from the start. Guy bought so many Reddit Up-votes and views to kick start his channel.

Hopefully you look more into this and find out some information!

Some referrers are given by some extensions that you have installed on your Chrome. Check the Chrome extension location to see if there are something like Getsportscore. If there is, remove http://www.fastremovevirus.com/remove-getsportscore-ads-completely-from-pc.html. And the referrers may disappear from your VidIQ.

Please do update us Cinnamonster, thanks so much :)
Update: none of my friends in the YouTube SEO industry know about referrers like .gov and such. Then again they just sell Google/twitter spoofed views. Very interesting, wondering if other SEO packages on here could do this

Yeah I figured he did that to begin with. Thinking of doing the same once I get my channel's content in order and going.

I'm running off a clean installation of Windows 10 and the only chrome extension I have is adobe reader DC and vidIQ, don't think that's the cause

What even is this? lol 124.4k votes and 134k comments on reddit... something has to be going wrong here right? Video was uploaded "6 minutes" ago...

I think this is direct proof that LeafyIsHere, possibly the fastest growing YouTube channel in 2016, is using BlackHat methods and paying for services to make his channel a success. What's funny is I never doubted it for a minute!

Those referring are from when people have their Twitter automatically to Tweet after they've liked a video.
Others include pages like this (look on the right, the twitter feed)
Others include those automatic video indexing sites.
Some of those referrers are just false. I went through every single one of these in the picture below and none of them linked to the video or embedded.

EDIT:
I don't know why some videos have 500k referrers while others have 5000. It is weird. VidIQ problems most likely.
