yeah, submitting a request is easy, getting accepted is the hard part though i guess having this public will break a few "service providers" that were doing the same thing for a lot of money.

Well, I did it for he hell of it. I submitted a request for my Fiverr-clone site. I've worked hard on it, and have social media profiles on every big social media site.

I'll inform how it goes when, and if, they reply to my request.

Yes apparently it is open now for anyone to apply - I think by the sounds of it they have just relaxed the requirements slightly - you can get verified if you are a public interest account. I am guessing that you will be able to swing this if you claim to be an authority within your niche and also shoow that you have a reasonable following, you tweet valuable information regularly within your niche and so on....

you need to make sure your bio is filled out and your birth date is done. you need to give 2 website addresses to verify and you also need to write in less that 500 words why they should approve you. How many hoops?
anyway just tried for the sake of it and expect to be turned down.

Have u got an example of what type of links your friend used and how they justified it in the 500 words? My friend got rejected too and he's a journalist but i reckon he just didn't sell himself well

Anyone get verified? I got rejected but seeing a lot of few people I followed getting verified that also do same thing as me.
