Niche Website Journey

A little background about me:

Got into IM around a year or so ago. Tried a few things here and there without the greatest of success, would give up on most things until I ran into Instagram. Had some fair bit of success with it, and now i'm looking to get into what everyone dreams about; passive income.

The Idea:

So, i want to start growing my very first decent niche website. What i'm thinking is to build up a website in some sort of microniche with little competition get some good quality content on there, order some seo service from bhw or other sources and start ranking.

Monetization tools:

Google Adsense, Amazon affiliate

Goal:

As much money as I can scrape from the site, not looking for much, would be happy with even 20-50$/month. Mostly looking to learn and have people along the journey that can help me out as well as one another.

Budget:

Am willing to spend approximately 500$ on this project.

What I've done so far: So far I've done a bit of keyword research, found some keywords ( around 8 or so ) that i'd like to target. They have pretty low search volumes, around 1000-2000 search volumes each, but these seem to be very low competition which is perfect for me. These keywords have around 1$ CPC. Bought an expired domain that had some pretty good backlinks from other niche related sites. Bought some Godaddy hosting as well.

I know that i should be looking for things with 2$+ CPC and more search volumes but as i said I'm really looking to learn more than anything!

What I want to do by next week:

Contact some good quality content writers from the BHW marketplace and get a few pieces of SEO optimized content going for a few of my own keywords. Set up some social media pages for my website to have a few backlinks going ( i heard it helps). Decide on a theme ( am thinking the 2014 magazine style wordpress theme). Finally, buy and set up a logo on the website and install a few useful plugins.

Questions for the readers:

Now, as you can see, i'm a complete beginner when it comes to SEO and website building, therefore I have a few questions for those who may be more experienced than me. For starters, how should I be targeting my keywords? What i mean by that is should i be ordering a few articles which have been SEO optimized for one specific keyword? Then buy some backlinks for that article and once it's ranked i move on to another keyword? Is this how things work? Secondly, if anyone has some good advice or helpful tips for SEO or any do's/don'ts for my site, i'd love any help possible.

You can target one main keyword and a couple of long tails per article, that's sensible.

You need to build few links to the articles as well as constant links to homepage of the site.

I used to make money with niche websites, thats a great choice dude. Be persistent and try to reach your highest, when you reach, double it haha. Success for you.

Hi, well I started off with viewing a few expired go daddy domains that i'd want to buy. Found some that seemed good and checked out keywords i could target with those domains. Went on http://keywordshitter.com/ for a bunch of keywords as well as google keyword planner. This gave me a bunch of domains. I checked the ones with high enough volumes on google keyword planner ( at least more than 1k global search results). Then I checked their competition scores with http://www.keywordrevealer.com/ and looked at how many domains with DA and PA below 20-30 on the top 10s. I then manually checked the top 10 search results for the keywords that i found were good enough for me to make sure no high authority website was dominating the search result for that keyword and to view what kind of websites were ranking and making sure they didn't have too many backlinks and what not. Once i was satisfied I went to go check on spyfu.com to make sure there were enough advertisers for my actual keywords. That's pretty much how i went about doing mine

Good good dude I have also started the journey same as you just last week. The only difference i can see is that i want to keep my authority site as whitehat as possible with only on page seo to start with, without thinking about links at this point of time.

Let’s start with the thing I would NOT do, and that is buy links for your articles or any page on your website for that matter.

This will not go well for you!

Google has been getting smarter through the years and we need to move forward as well. Buying links, and using link schemes may look like a fast and cool solution that will get you where you need to be but in the long run, it will only get you in trouble.

Your focus should be creating an evergreen piece of content to target each and every individual keyword. If your keyword targets are similar and you can create groups of keywords behind which the user intent is the same, you can go ahead and target more than one keyword per page (no more than 3 with one main target). If not one keyword per page is your rule of thumb.

Once created you need to heavily promote your content. This does not mean spending advertising money you don’t have, rather pushing it so the right people can notice. Who are the right people? The once capable of sharing, publishing online and placing a link back to your site. Your content should be created for them as much as for your own audience.

Very Important. As you have no advertising money, and no money coming in from your site, failing to capitalize on your organic traffic is a luxury you can’t afford. I can see you’ve mentioned AdSense and taking niche specific offers from affiliate networks. This is fine but you may like to explore other alternatives as well.

#1 Create and sell your own niche related products. This one is a bit difficult for a newbie and it takes more time but if done right your side business can easily become your career choice.

#2 Work with native widgets to provide functionality and monetization to your blog – my personal favorite. Especially for new sites and business owners that do not like to bore their audience with old school flashing banners all over their website. Now I don’t really know what your business is all about but, if this would be a solution you’d consider I believe baseify.com would be perfect for you.
Two other, slightly different alternative you might consider are Taboola.com and Outbrain.com. You can check them out and see what would work for your website best.
