Long Tail Platinum - is KC meaningless?

Up until now I've done keyword research and then filtered keywords depending on search count and KC to get the list down I've then manually checked to see if I felt I could get a top 5-10 placing.

I've sitting in 2nd place for a decent keyword phrase, and according to my notes it had a KC of 23. I've now checked again and it's come up as 42!

So I've got 2nd spot with no backlinks at all and it's been in that position for a while. I'm wondering if there's any point in checking the KC because 23 to 42 is quite a leap. But I could do with some sort of filter(s) as otherwise I'd be manually checking thousands of keywords/phrases!

Is KC not worth checking, as it seems to me like it's pretty random!

I do, (as stated in my OP). But to check thousands of keywords manually would take all year. There needs to be some sort of filtering process.

I prefer Keywordrevealer, its more accurate and it gives you the top 10 sites ranking for the keywords;links,social,etc.Its saves a lot of time instead of doing it manually and found some gems keywords easily.

KC is not reliable. Try termexplorer.com ..they are using ahref API and the tool will get you a real idea of the competition.

I agree , keywordrevealer is a great tool but term explorer is using ahref api and that is a big plus to get the real backlink data.

Never heard of that but looks promising. Have you found it to be accurate? And what does it take into account

You will never get a 100% reliable competition checking tool. Nothing beats your manual check. But in my experience , this one is the best. It's mainly looking for # of Backlinks, Domain Age , onsite optimization and some other metrics. Give it a try it's free.

I agree I wouldn't go after a keyword just because a tool said it was easy. Ill take a look at it tomorrow, thank you.

I would say it semi manually, I'm using tools as well like semrush, keyword revealer and ahrefs, but after that I check it manually. Sometimes I found keywords that looks easy / low competition to me, but the tools say the otherwise.

But I understand if you don't wanna do it to save times. No hard feelings.

I would recommend to go with keywordrevealer, I have used this with great success.
