I have two stupid questions, I probably should have asked a while ago but can't seem to find much on.

Question 1. How Important Is Interlinking In My Website And What Is The Best Way To Do It?

I have not really utilized interlinking my pages together. I have read it passes link juice and helps with ranking. What is the best method for doing this?

Question 2. How Important Is It To Build Links To My Home Page?

I mostly only build my tier one links to my sub-pages and never really send links to my home page. What is the benefit of sending links to home page. Will this help increase my ranking or is it a waste of time? My home page is basically just a list of all of my blog posts. Should I think about ranking for bigger keywords on my home page and make a static page? How does this work?

I am sure this will help many other people out there getting their feet wet in SEO. I appreciate any help and answers. :)

I'll preface this by saying I am not a SEO expert:

1) I interlink related articles - If I have an article about toasters I will link to my pages about red toasters and blue toasters as well. I'll link as many articles that are relevant like that.

2) Pretty important as far as I know. If you have a good linking setup then the home page will pass link juice to the other pages (via the menu and sidebar links). I personally use a static page for this that uses what I said above for relevant links to my money articles.

Thanks for the detailed answer. So you are saying to make it look natural and not link to non relevant posts or pages?

When linking to home page what should my backlinks be related to? My website or keywords within my website and sub pages? Or just a bunch of random related keywords.

No problem man. Exactly, natural. Users can appreciate it as it makes navigating easier and as far as I know Google does too.

Depends on the keywords you're targeting - I usually focus on two or three keywords on my homepage with a pillar article. Random related keywords doesn't make much sense if I'm understanding you right.

This is kind of related and I wanted to share it as I found it useful a while back when I found it on here. I wouldn't follow this image to a T, but it should give you some ideas for a diverse anchor text profile:

Excellent man thanks, this is what I was looking for.

Anybody else have any input? :)

To answer Question #2 in your post I found the following thread to be helpful in regards to link building. Not all methods discussed apply, but many do and should be considered in your link building efforts.

The first one being that it helps keep people on your website longer. So, if you have an article or a landing page that people are on and you’ve got 3 to 5 or 10 interlinks on that page to other useful articles, you’re going to keep people on your website longer. If you have link in home page. It helps to increase your website ranking.

If you use Wordpress, there are also interlinking plugins that can search for specific keywords and link to an article every time that keyword exists via shortcode. I can't recommend one as I haven't used any, but I have looked into it and there are several.
