Writing about unknown topics

I have a client that I found online that wants me to proofread and modify two articles. The subject is audit, but I don't know anything about it. Should I do research or just wing it from the content that is there?

Any suggestions?

At first read an article. Maybe it is the best article about audit in the Internet and you'll understand subject perfectly. But if not, do some little research.At least check the definitions of unknown terminology.

I don't think you should take it on. But just in case you did, you should find someone that knows how to write audit posts.

Just be honest tell them you need more info. Tell them you have a team of writers - that way you can get away with not knowing much detail by saying that you will pass the info on to your writers.

Seeing as you can claim a little justified ignorance in this way you can easily request more info.

Once you have more details just outsource the work - there are some great writers here on Bhw.

Is the purpose of the article to get it indexed and ranked online?

If it is for a web site, all it needs to do is use the correct keywords related to the term "audit".

Audit is a broad term so go with something more long tail.

But since its online, I guess its for search... if that is the case there are tools you can use to optimize the article.

Otherwise, they just want you to proof read and make sure it doesn't have grammatical errors.

hire somebody on fiverr dude and you will save time , there are many shitty SEO gigs, but for this sort of work there are good and quality people there.

It might be best to just read their provided articles and go with that, because they may have a certain message or way or writing or unique points of views regarding their profession - and analyzing their content as apposed to going out into the world wild web for research might actually backfire.

So it really depends on the type of client you have here. Do they just want any usable content about auditing, or are they trying to convey certain messages within this field in a certain way, or even a unique way?

Overall, if you do not feel confident that you can do the job successfully, then it's best to just be honest with them and turn the assignment down and use it as a learning experience. No use in wasting your time or your client's time.

Audit as in financial audit ? i d advise you to hire someone because i personally don't think someone with no accounting/finance background can grasp the basics of that field enough to write about it .

If the topic is about importance, the basics, terms you need to know about audit, etc, you can probably wing it by doing some research. Anything more complicated than that would probably be difficult.

the best way is to navigate kindle ebook section in Amazon and look at the index of ebook about your topic. In this way you can combine topics and get a precise idea of subjects you have to write on.

Honestly, research. I've had to write articles for other people where I've needed to do research, and I've done a bit of research to make up my lack of knowledge. At best, you learn something new you can use later on. At worse, your client will ask for a re-write.

Well, at worst they might leave a bad review or feel scammed, but I'm going to assume that they're not that hard and will understand that first drafts are a natural part of writing.

But as others have pointed out. There ARE ways to shorten the research, and just make sure the article gets ranked with keywords.
