I checked the viagra SERPs and the hacked websites that are ranking are clearly doing something that is non-obvious from just checking Majestic, Ahrefs, etc. Any other hints you can provide would be appreciated

Backlink from 2-3 drop domains with 301 redirect. Or download website with seo score from web archive and put links from this website to main one.
Also you can do pyramid (or fence) with 301 redirects. Less PA DA domains redirect to domain which have most PA, DA, TF, CF scores. 3 steps is ok.
For example you have 12 drop domains with good backlinks and good history in the same niche. You choose the most better 3 domains to redirect to main website. 3 is domains is ok. Nine other domanis you must redirect to 3 first domains.

Another trick is 302 redirect.
Copy website of your competitors from top5 in g00gle, make all pages 302 redirect to the website which you choose, after 1 month switch this website and delete 302 redirect.Don't forget to addd some good backlinks from PBNs, web2.0 and profiles.

Another trick with mobile version
not all websites have mobile version, right?
What we can do with this trick? Register the same domain in dot mobi. Make mobile website which are not have your competitor and get his mobile traffic....... so on ......so on .......so on

Search for g00gle with new methods. All good methods are on top 30 with pharma keywords, not only with viagra, but other meds are also high competitive and have good new tricks. Good luck.

Throttle it back and make it legit (no hacking) and you have a dark grey method that can be 'safe'. I was in the pharma industry, legit pharmacy, and got them to #9 for buy Viagra in 2014 but we pulled the page as the site was getting bombed by the competition. Not worth the risk on a £22m company with a 100+ employees. Now worth £8m without me, in their wisdom they thought they could do it better on their own. Their monthly revenue is halved what I had it at. Dickheads. Yes, I'm bitter as it was a huge contract for me.

bcoz you target was high competitve keyword. there plenty of low comp-ve keywords which can bring you a lot of traffic

Direct 12 domains with 301 redirects can hurt you site, it would be better to check domains and than put 301 redirects with carefull.

2. make clever 302 redirect with htaccess to domain.com
3. order some backlinks to domain1.com, after some monthes you can move 302 redirect to domain.com and your domain will get almost all positions of domain.com

A 302 redirect is a temporary redirect. There are very few instances where this type of redirect should be used, but unfortunately it is the easiest to implement. This means that many webmasters unfamiliar with search engine mechanics use the wrong type of redirect.
