Question: Engagement Rate

If I had 10K followers, would 700 - 800 likes per photo seem good, normal or bad? 30 - 50 comments per photo, too.

thats amazing engagement! normal-ish engagement is 2-3% and good engagement is 5+%, but you almost have 10%! Thats amazing!

I would say its ok level. ^ the 2-3% level is for giant accounts 200k+, when youre smaller you should expect more and it will go down as you get bigger. I'd say 10% at 10k is good.

But there's always that one user who'll come in and say it's crap because they have yadda yadda yadda without realising they're the exception to the rule.

Anything above 5% is very good.

The average is 2% I believe.

Keep in mind every niche is slightly different, some engage more than others. Always high engaging niches will be things like fashion/fitness/comedy other niches may get you a lotta likes but maybe not a lotta comments.

In the end as someone else alluded to, when you are on the lower end of followers Less than 25k, your engagement should naturally be a bit higher because most of your network is seeing each post and variances only come in when you start to hit the explore page and start to reach different time zones. That is when you will see your engagement percentage drop a little bit.

Other than that, keep crushing it, because the average even on the biggest celebrities, and famous pages is 1%-3%

It's good, but it will drop (percentagewise). We can't be more specific without knowing the niche, there are niches where 50 comments is truly amazing at your size, and others where it's just average.

Thanks for all the replies. I was actually hoping it would be a little higher - I haven't seen engagement increase relative to the number of followers I'm getting - but a few of you alluded to that. I'm doing general photography - landscape, nature, etc.

can you explain why the engagement % drops as you get bigger? I've heard from many ppl and believe that it does happen but I don't really understand why.

I'm getting 12-15% engagement at 10k followers and would be ecstatic if it was still like that at 100k haha

One simply thing is that you acquire followers which later stop using Instagram, and most people don't even use Instagram every day. Most of my friends will log in once in a while to upload a photo and then go to see their followers photos.
