DA vs Relevancy Trade Off - Discussion

Hey Guys

We all know that relevancy largely trumps DA nowadays.

What I am wondering is if there is a DA 'level' at which relevancy doesn't really matter - you probably still want a backlink from that site...

For example, sites with DA of 100 we probably want backlinks from.

So where do you draw the line? What I mean is for a high DA 'non relevant' site, what DA is 'acceptable' where you start to disregard relevancy? I'm thinking something like 70 and above but would like some other thoughts...

Obviously you would still be building relevant links too, developing content to do so and all that good stuff. I am just wondering what DA I should focus on for building non-relevant links ALONGSIDE relevant links

Ever since ebay took the keyword "online auctions" off their home page they no longer rank page 1 for the term. There was a time where you could rank for a term without the page even mentioning it... ebay did this for a long time because sooo many places linked to ebay with keywords relevant to "online auctions" but link text alone doesn't cut it at that level anymore. It still works in longtail keyword niches where there isn't much competition, but if you are competing in a space then your content better damn well be relevant or you will end up like ebay and not rank for you target search term... google it and see for yourself then search in ebay's home page source... foot successfully shot.

I think DA trumps relevancy any day of the week. I seen domains rank on page 1 of google for hard to rank keywords, just because their DA is so strong. They put in a test page that say "Diagnostic Testing" for something. No content - No Links - Just temporary testing of something and they are on page one. For a common term like that.

DA beats relevancy everytime provided you have good onpage SEO.

Domain Authority = All inner pages with GOOD on seo page RANKED WITHOUT backlinks.

Does this apply to... appropriated domains? I am working on a project built on an old authority site in the same niche. Has contextual links from a ton of industry leaders. But of course I just am using the domain, it never dropped and 90% of the links where brand to the homepage but I was wondering how this will work. It's my first time playing with the process.

There is no doubt that domain had good traffic because of good backlinks.
Good OBLs is the way to get constant in the google results.
Try to keep the domain in the successful way and update your site frequently.

Considering DA is a metric that Moz created and not Google, I take it with a grain of salt. And now, with the death of PR, it seems more popular than ever.

Relevancy is something I value over DA. I try to acquire links based on relevancy.

Reason being, a link farm can easily boost their DA through signals that Moz takes into consideration; so with that said, I don't anticipate as much movement for my targeted keyword if the context of the page does not match the backlink anchor text and my page that is being linked to.

Higher authority links will, in turn, increase your overall authority. Based off of my experience, contextual links are of more value for increasing specific keyword rankings. In the end, high DA link from a relevant page is SEO gold.
