I am starting this thread to keep a track of my progress and also get useful insights from good people of this forum.

I learnt java in school , loved it and later after my college took job in an IT firm as Java developer. Now it has been a year in my job. I want to ponder into Game Development and learn , develop games and be successful as a Game developer. Then leave my job maybe.

I already have this --->
1. Java Knowledge (Intermediate)
2. Libgdx - Java game Framework Knowledge(Beginner)
3. Can arrange some funds to pay for this venture from salary but not too much as I have other expenses.

Doing Currently:
Learning Libgdx Framework as much as I can in after time from my job. Taking help from these books.
  • LibGDX Cross-platfrom Game Development Cookbook by David Saltares Marquez
  • LibGDX Game Development By Example by James Cook
My company provides me with a free membership of SafariBooks hence was able to get these books for free. :)

What I need ?
Google Developer Account (25$)
-- As I am still away from actually having completed a game to be published so not a priority as of now.
Graphics /Art Work -- I either need someone to partner up with me for Graphics and artwork or I will have to use free ones or spend money on buying some graphics. Can do so not much issues.

I have also opened a JV thread (Awaiting Moderation as of now) to bring up anyone else wanting to begin in learning Android Java Game Development .We can connect through skype and maybe speed up our learning. :)

3rd June, 2016
Took a off from office to think more about my whole plan and organize my journey plans.

I enjoy reading stories like this one, and will follow you with a great pleasure.
What apps exactly are you going to create?

I will start with some simple small games but my ultimate aim is to build a RPG type game. Let's see how much and How fast can I learn. :)

Cool man will be watching!

Game dev here as well for iOS and Android, although I don't exactly use coding to create my games, have tried looking through OpenGameArt for free assets? They won't be over the top or very unique but it could help you get a start.

Not coding then what ? Something like construct2 ?

If you are in need of graphics, please check my Behance portfolio http://www.behance.net/qohelet

Buildbox 2 bro, it gets the job done with multiple exports, obviously coding has its major uniqueness factor in games, but with the help of tools it's possible to pump out high quality games in a matter of weeks and even get them featured like many Buildbox games have been.

I'm still not at the expert playing level but have you ever considered going with tools?

I have seen some of these like RPGMaker . Maybe yes they would be quicker to pump out games and also a major plus for someone who might not know coding. But I really think that since I have a coding background it is better to put in time in learning the real way to do the game. As these softwares also in backend use java or c sharp!

Can you make one Android app for me?

Haha!! not much experience as of now. :)

good luck bro, im fresh graduate and a game and app developer too

wish you all the best with your journey, keep us updated
cheers |amoon|

i'm an android developer and i have almost 500k users on my apps i also know some unity techniques and i'm going to expand my business and make games , not a call of duty tho something quick fun and time killer im in learning process and if i found something useful ill share with you cuz i like this kind of journeys .
good luck

There is a Major Update:
I studied Libgdx For like 2 weeks. Through books and some demo games. What I could get was libgdx provides me the power to do anything and much more freedom than GameEngines as Unity or Unreal .. but needs a hell lot of coding like each and everything is coding. That would increase the time to produce games.
As I am looking to be able to pump out quality games as fast as I can I am switching to UNITY. It has a visual system so atleast some basic things are done without coding so that I only need to code for the functionality. BUT Unity has C# which I never used but I hear that C# and Java are almost same so I should be able to cope up. This weekend is devoted to UNITY. And I am liking it so far.

Ditto, would like to be a part of this too!

Unity is great but here is a suggestion for anyone starting into this like me.
For making games with Unity you must love coding. I think I enjoy it as I have been messing in the code since last 5 hours... its 2 am here..Bruh..
So if you are planning to go this way and do not know any coding language please start learning a language c# specifically .
I am finding Unity challenging but enjoyable.

:) Meanwhile , Tutorials time over Now I have started Making my first game :)
Since its first it will not only take time but can be crappy too! :D

Dev here, many years experience in this field, the game has changed over the last couple of years, markets are over saturated 1.2 mil apps on Google play alone, you must not only create a great game but spend as much time on marketing, while your creating your first game I would also dive head first into a marketing strategy. Best of luck

Yup would also look into Marketing thing.
Also for anyone UNITY developers beginning or something , Lets get together on Skype. Pm me your Skype address and we can make a group.
We can maybe discuss ideas or help each other up or collaborate for anything.

I've made games for the last 2 years and I recommend you to just sell your code or upload your games to github and make a portfolio with it. You'll get a job with that portfolio of games and make more money than with just regular mobile ads with are shit this days.

You can check my portfolio of games at http://codecanyon.net/user/gikdew, lots of users bought my games to rank them on the play store and make money out of it. All my games were developed using JAVA and LIBGDX as a framework, so you can make some good money if you know how to code that.

Good Luck, and send me a Private Message if you have any doubts.
