Best Way To 301

I have just brought a expired domain and would like to quickly 301 redirect it. Would I get the same SEO benefits if I was to 301 it from the domain registrar backend rather then setting up hosting and using the .htaccess file?

OP, you must set up dedicated hosting and then 301 redirect it to your MS.

Why can't you 301 from the registrar? As long as it is actually a 301 they are doing.

I'm pretty sure you can just 301 from the registrar. I don't know if there's an advantage of doing it through .htaccess

Maybe someone else can clear things up. I'd be interested to know.

Do the 301 Redirect from your registrar. This is Easy & Simple, Go to Domain Setting you will get the Redirect Option.

Using htaccess you can redirect different pages from old domain to matching pages on your new domain.
But if all you need is plain root domains redirect then just use registrar redirect.

It depends on what kind of domain you are buying and redirecting to your site. Use authority domain, which domain can pass juice to your money site.

Make sure it is a 301 redirect not 302. I know for example that Namecheap does both, but to do the 301 you have to go into the advanced settings.

Thanks for that tip I had it redirected by just changing to redirect option in my dashboard. After you said that I went in to Advanced DNS and changed the URL Redirect Record from Unmasked to 301 redirect.

Here is a picture below of how it should look once changed to an actual 301 redirect if anyone else comes across this thread with the same issue.

Depends, I would probably host it and then 301 redirect specific pages rather than a full sitewide redirect to one page.

I would go with this, they seem to have more impact. A bit more work, but worth it.
