So I was a bit arrogant with sape links and got myself a manual penalty.
Fortunately, Google did not throw the website completely, it went from 3 to 11.
This is what it say on the webmaster:
"Google has detected a pattern of unnatural artificial, deceptive, or manipulative links pointing to pages on this site. Some links may be outside of the webmaster’s control, so for this incident we are taking targeted action on the unnatural links instead of on the site’s ranking as a whole"

I believe Google took a look at my website because someone was spamming it so they would actually come and take a look.

Google has requested that the profile would be cleaned out of unnatural links, and that we will resubmit to reconsider.
Wanted to consult with someone who got a manual penalty before

So I am wondering what my next step are:
1.If I remove the sape links, google would know that the links were connected to the webmaster directly and might harm my ranking even more.
Leaving them seems like a problematic thing to do as well.

2.From now on I believe Google is going to monitor the website, should I stop building links completely?

3.I thought about sending those links to a buffer websites, I might not get the same power out of them, but at least I'll be safe.
Should I do it ?
What kind of pages would work best? Social media like FB and YT, or PBN's?

Any kind of advice would be appreciated as this website is not disposable at all

imo you will have very slim chance to recover the penalty from an affiliate site, just let go and start new site, dont waste your time with G

This is not an option as this is an operating business.

you use Sape for tier 1? Wtf never ever use Sape links for tier 1. Make some buffer pages Web2.0 or some other and send sape to this

If you must keep the site then you have to clean up your link profile. Sape on your money site was not smart but let's not dwell on that. Yes, Say you hired a marketing guy and did not know what they were doing. Download your link profile and clean your shit up. Google may have looked at your site due to spam but don't think they don't hit sape randomly either. Where were you ranking before sape?

Around the same place I am ranking now.
I'm 90% sure it's the sape links, my question is wouldn't it alert Google if I clean the sapes?

Clean your backlink profile and start over.

I have 4000 links, some are just old spam and not working websites, should I go through each one ? Or just remove the sape?

Just put them in a disavow file and claim that you have inspected your backlink profile. Also say that you recently became aware of a compeitor trying to overoptimize your site and have tried to negotiate with no success. That should help you out. Remember at the other end there is a human being, so being polite and making it seem like you took reasonable steps will help out big time. After that remove the sape links and pass them through a buffer instead.

Remove the Sape links, since G already knows about those links, hence your manual penalty!! Meaning someone actually manually looked at your link profile and is aware you have Sape links, so not sure how removing will now alert G since thats what they penalised you for in the first place!!

Just an update
Even though I removed 70% of the Sape links my reconsideration request still didn't go through.
The weird thing, is Google actually sent me 3 examples of links it feels are spammy - none of them was a sape link, none of the was strong enough to rank, and honestly they didn't look that spammy.
This threw me off a bit, why would Google bother to send me those 3 examples?

I would also want to know if Google recrawl the my website after every reconsideration request?

70% of Sape? You cant seriously think you will win a reconsideration with 30% of the Sape links still present. In fact you not only have to remove ALL Sape, you also need to show you have made an effort to contact various webmasters requesting link removal etc. And even if after all tat work you get revoked, your stie will not rank thesame as before again, even with new Sape links!!

Manual penalty is like getting sent to jail and getting revoked is like an ex convict with a criminal record. That record will stay with you and affect you long term!! Best to start again if this is just another affiliate / Adsense site, unless its a high value business branded domain and you only need to rank for your brand name.
