"Web forgery"?

Has anyone ever had this happen?

A site that I put online just a few days ago has been flagged as a "web forgery" by Firefox, and when users try to access it, it shows the following warning;

What triggers that message?

It's a perfectly legitimate site, no forgery/phishing or any other bs going on.

How does one solve that issue?

EDIT: Chrome also says "deceptive content ahead"...
This is rather odd - I've never had this happen before.

You can report an incorrect forgery on Chrome https://www.google.com/safebrowsing/report_error/?tpl=mozilla&continue - It's a Google page but I suspect that the Chrome / Firefox system is actually the same thing.

I'm guessing your site have a built-in payment being implemented.

Were you visitors being directed to a "https" site or not?
Do you have an SSL certificate?

It could be that the payment is deemed "not secure" by the browsers.

Yes this has happened COUNTLESS of times to my sites in various "fake" niches.

If I were you I'd submit for reapproval - in my experience these are processed within a couple of days.

Your website has been flagged unsafe by built-in protection system of Firefox. The probable reason could be suspected phishing site, or a site designed to steal user data.

Maybe you need to start with a fresh domain. I guess it's an expired domain that you've picked up?

It's a brand new site (literally a few DAYS old), not even ranked yet - so the chances of any competitor even knowing about it are not even calculable...

No payment on the site - it's just basically a whole bunch of text with a few youtube videos embedded.
No SSL cert, but that shouldn't be grounds for a 'forgery' flag! None of my sites have ever had SSL, and they've been fine.

Thanks for the suggestion - I've been through the code line by line, and I can't see anything out of place.
The only thing I can think of is a hosting company compromise, but, I checked other sites hosted on the same IP as mine and they don't have the same issue.

I am not in a 'fake' niche, or anything even remotely shady - it's 100% clean... I have already submit a review request, though.

Not an expired name - it was a brand new domain, never before registered.

Hey Tony, check whether you've inadvertently re-registered an expired domain, I've had that happen in the past in a positive way, I found that someone had already built some backlinks for a domain I considered to be new. Excluding some fuck up at Mozilla, it's the only logical explanation to me.

Yeah - that was one of the first things I thought of, but it appears to be a virgin domain.

I've today decided to just abandon that domain, and that hosting account.
I've setup the site on a new domain on a new host, so, let's see what happens from here.

Maybe your website was hacked and contains malware? or maybe your web hosting account had a bad reputation?

As far as I know this is based on user interactions. But you can get it removed by contacting the chrome team.

Whether or not you are is besides the point.
It doesn't take much to trigger these things - the mention of a brand name along with a similar favicon can be enough to be marked as a phishing site.

Anyways, starting from a fresh domain like you have done seems to be a good option. Especially since a lot of web blockers get influenced by the same source as firefox/chrome (which I believe is google) but often tend to lack behind in removing the web forgery mark (MalwareBytes kept a site of mine in their blocked sites database several weeks after the browsers stopped blocking it).

HI tony,

If you are using a 301 to your landing 'website' , make sure that the 301'ed isn't flagged, because starting with a fresh domain won't fix the issue if it's the 301 that is flagged.
