Is this a good keyword?

I want to build an authority website and make a few hundred bucks a month from adsense, is this a good keyword to do so? there are a few niche websites related to this keyword on the first page of google and they're all amazon affiliates, is that going to be a problem for me? I don't know a thing about SEO so I'm going to have to invest there.

Also, the same keyword has high competition on google's keyword tool and here it has low competition, which one should I trust?

Lastly, if it is good, should I get an EMD?

If thats your main keyword, and your planning on building an authority website then its rather low on monthly searches. Its fine for an amazon affiliate site if its possible.

Also, 28 isn't high nor low comp imho (slightly low), if this is your first website i suggest you to spend more time searching. My first web had 18 KW comp and it was still tough to rank it for a newb. The most important thing is to analyse the top 10 itself, the picture shows that its not very hard, but not very easy (for a first timer) either based on DA/PA.

On EMD, if your building authority, don't go with EMD its not worth it. Authority and Branded names go hand in hand in my opinion, the small boost EMD gives nowadays isn't worth it.

Go for an expired domain with a brandable name (best option, but be careful and analyse it good for spammy backlinks and penalties/history), or start clean.

When you say there are a few niche related websites on the first page.. you need to know how good they are. Look into their backlink profiles in majestic and ahrefs.. they might be hiding PBNs but probably not.

Quality means what you mean? competitor site metrics?

New domains are a pain. EMD's are still useful - if it's worth the age & backlinks. Going for an expired, brandable domain will be your best here. You're trying to hit the ground running, not just hit the ground mate.

No it's not a good keyword to build authority site around. Add one 0 to search volume and you got something to work with.

I would go for brand domain not EMD or even partial. Think Google.com instead of SearchEngine.com

Also, don't rank your big keyword on the homepage "directly". That's not how authority domains work. Do it the other way around giving focus on inner pages and let the homepage rank naturally. I wouldn't build any other than branded anchors links to the homepage + solid on-page on it + siloed structure.

Long tails are longer keywords - 4-5 word ones. They usually have much less competition. So instead of trying to rank for 1 keyword, you write content around those longer keywords, and they take much less work to rank. Look up Silo Structures too.

Maybe go for lesser competition. Buy keywords from the marketplace. It's astonishing how good some of them are. High volume, low competition. Sometimes zero competition.
