I was wondering if there was a modular based SEO course available that goes through everything from scratch - learning about different type of links, keyword density, keyword research, backlink building, etc. I know there are some Udemy courses out there but they seem really basic... Unless someone has a certain suggestion.

The reason I'm interested is because I actually have been learning SEO for a while now whenever I need it, by simply taking small tips here and there either on forums or people in general good at SEO on how to find competition, how to do x, y, and z, but there are a lot of different answers and some times even controversial. Sometimes I don't even know whether what I'm learning is right or not. There was a thread on BHW saying that site description with keyword doesn't even matter - I have been always told that matters a lot. Just these little nuggets of information can be a hit or miss to be a proficient SEO person.

Maybe I'm just over thinking this but I really want to start from scratch and learn everything RIGHT instead of just learning tid bits of tips and information. For example: "yeah, just install this WordPress plugin and when u write articles, ur good to go, have fun" - That's great and all but what do these plugins do to help the SERP, do they calculate article keyword density and add tags, etc. It's like when you're learning mathematical theories and learning how to apply them but not knowing how they were derived. In order to be a mathematician you should have an understanding of how theories and formulas are derived so you can do greater things in your field. I am itching to become much better with SEO and have an organized blueprint in my head of how things work.

Thanks in advance guys, this forum has been great.

I don't know what you have been doing in BHW since March 2014 :)
The best courses are all available here in blackhatworld, we have lots of useful threads that show you how to be an expert in the seo world.

SEO is a vast field with endless learning about what works and what doesn't. There's no "best" way to learn, other than just taking it one step at a time and becoming completely immersed in it for atleast a year. That's how long it took me to learn most of what I need to know anyway. Might take you more or less time but the best way personally is a hands on approach.

LOL, yeah dude. I actually stopped coming to BHW because of school. That was like when I was in grade 11. I just completed my first year of university in computer science so I didn't have time to pursue internet marketing but I'm slowly edging myself back in it - I can make those bots, those sweet sweet bots now so I'm excited to have them do shit for me.

Read the forum here like a madman for a month, it will give you a wider picture than a course from a single source.

Ya these courses are very helpful.. Just follow the BHW for sometime, you will learn lot about SEO..

First you have to understand that SEO is a very empirical and also a very dynamic field. There are plenty of contradicting ideas in SEO and that's just something you will have to accept. It's okay to deal with contradicting ideas, but you will have to figure out what works for you and what doesn't.

Second, the goal of people who sell courses is to sell courses. Of course they will try to convince you that their course is a "complete" guide to SEO - in truth it probably isn't. Every course will be based on somebody's personal findings at best or on random ideas from around the web at worst.

There's no substitute for simply taking time to read this forum, for months and months, and then trying things out for yourself.

i also suggest udemy SEO courses; you can learn the basics. You can find coupon codes for courses. if you want little bit advance courses, i have a few. if you pm me i can send you the links

The features of Yoast SEO can be reviewed here:

There's a course I'm working on that's meant to be a free alternative (meaning no payments and no ads) to these other courses, but it's still far from being finished (it needs about 20 more pages of content, some of the pages aren't complete, and the pagination isn't set up). Until then, start testing those tips you receive on your own sites. The reason you're receiving so many different answers is because most people just regurgitate what they read without testing it themselves. Set yourself apart from these people and start testing the advice you receive.

Additionally, keep in mind that there isn't necessarily one "right" way to do everything. For example, I mainly employ an on-page SEO, technical SEO, CRO, local citation (for the local businesses), and content marketing strategy (for backlinks) for every website I work on. On the other hand, there are others who launch an outreach link building campaign, use social media to reach a wider audience (some of whom will link back to their site), and do basic on-page SEO to rank.

There's a learning path in lynda.com called "Becoma an SEO Expert", they explain the concept of it really good. However, exploring stuff yourself is the best course there is.
