I work in a brutally competitive industry, with a very legitimate and always top-ranking site.

We're constantly getting negative SEO attacks; I clean up about 1,000 links every month and add them to the disavow. We've never built any links (yes, seriously) other than PR.

Last week we got a manual penalty for unnatural links, none of which we built. I again went through the link profile and disavowed.

How long does it take utnil google reinstates the site? Losing tons of $ every day.

Assuming you correctly submitted to them and did everything right then it could still take months. As far as I know there is no quoted turn around time, people have reported all different times here before.

It takes months, but do it anyway explaining the situation. I hope they devalue negative SEO in future.

Fuuuuck. I'm losing tens of thousands of dollars per day for the company. May get fired.

Fuck you G for not having a reasonable review process.

Remember when you upload the disavow file to include the old disvowed links too.

I am on month 5 of trying to get my site back up and running...... Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

You'd better talk to them directly and explain your situation. This might help to faster the review process.

As far as I know, it will take months or so to lift the penalty. And yeah I know it sucks.

They still never reinstated mine 3 years later 3 separate appeals later. Don't you just love how they make it impossible to contact them to? And only send out automated email replies?

Welcome to the club of the persecuted!

Some neckbeard carpet bombed one of my whitehat sites with over 196,000 backlinks from granny-p*rn and steroid sites. It completely torpedoed me in the rankings.

I used the disavvow tool, and I started seeing an improvement after 6 weeks, and by 8 weeks, my original rankings were back again.

This interview with Matt Cutts gives more information. He said it can take months.

That being said, you still have the issue of the manual penalty. You'll need to go beyond just using the dissavow tool to remove that. Google like to see documented evidence of what you have done to remove the bad links, such as contacting webmasters and hosting providers etc.
There is a process here to follow: https://moz.com/blog/ultimate-guide-to-google-penalty-removal

You can see the upgrade of your website in one or two months after using disavow tool. Your ranking will be come back.

Hope for good!
