Anyone Here Got A "Real" SEO Job?

I have been involved with IM (SEO specifically, although I have skills in a lot of different forms of marketing) for about 6 years, but I am a serious procrastinator. I have a business which is doing OK, but I am broke, and it's hard to do anything substantial when you are worrying about your finances.

I have had to bite my tongue and get a shitty warehouse job, working 8 hours picking items off of a shelf. It's obviously horrible, and not what I want to do to make some money on the side, but it's been my only option so far.

I am thinking about applying for an SEO job in my local town. I have seen jobs offering up to $3000 a month for a full time SEO, but I have a few doubts. I just don't understand what sort of stuff you would need to do for a local SEO firm .. I highly doubt they would have you building PBN's and Web 2.0s

Does anyone here have an offline SEO job? If so, what sort of things do you do on a daily basis .. also, was it hard to land?

I think it's just a confidence issue. I know a LOT about SEO, but I feel like they would want something more than what I know

I see tons of those kinda ads everyday but they just want people with enough knowledge to sell services over the phone a.k.a SEO Telemarketer, you can get $3000/month if you fill your quota.

Most the companies hiring SEO people know less than you/we do. Like Sombrero said, they want you to be able to service their clients. Service their clients well and you're good.

I work for a large Full service Digital Marketing company on the west coast. What you are going to do greatly depends on the clients needs. Our SEO Specialist do alot including, but not limited to..
- Keyword Research
- Keyword Mapping
- Creating Meta Descriptions & Title Tags.
- Updating Google Business Pages
- Running reports through Moz, SemRush, Bright Local.
- Running Keyword Ranking reports
- Doing Link & Image Audits
- Creating 404/301 redirection mapping
- Setting up proper URLs
- Creating Blog content
- Link clean ups (Disavow files for Google)
- Creating local citations
- htaccess / robots.txt edits
- On page linking strategies / mapping
- And So On....

You should have no problem landing an SEO job, its all about confidence. Also, idk where you live, but $3,000 a month sounds on the low side. you should be closer to $4-$5k.

Today I got an offer as an seo expert at a local firm here in Croatia and my pay would be measily 700$ which is kinda average-ish payment here, and I think I would mostly do on page seo, because when they heard me talking about off page they very really impressed, right now I'm a freelancer and I love doing it and I have a bigger payment but I don't have the benefits of a real regular job :/

That's the problem .. I have been 'self employed' since I was 16 .. i've only really done this shitty warehouse job.

I was thinking of creating a kick ass linkedin profile, with all my experience, testimonials, portfolio etc and sending that off in the cover letter

Go for it man. From a fellow procrastinator, the best way to do things is to keep a countdown from 10, and start doing the thing at 9. It works, try it. And I worked for a startup in my country, I was in the content and digital marketing team. So, the SEO had no idea about backlinking and all that crap. All he had to do was make sure there is no plagiarism, and focus on adword bids, content SEO, on page seo etc.

Just do it. The average SEO job is, as someone posted above, just basic onpage stuff etc. Depending where you land you may have to deal with some nagging ass clients that spend $500-$1000 ish per month. You could also land at an agency that charges clients $10k for a site audit etc. Basically, most will not have a real clue and you will not really have to go into PBN etc. Just talk your way through it, it's 90% perception anyways. You can land it not knowing shit, just make them believe you do and then you can learn on the job (if need be).
The bigger the clients and they more they spend the less pain in the ass they usually are. Small mom & pop shops will bother you more for $500 then a larger client paying the agency 5 figures on a monthly retainer.

I have sent off my CV and cover letter to 2 jobs. Hopefully I hear back from them soon.

My only concern is that I have no real world experience. I am just listed as a "self employed SEO and copywriter" on my CV, so I don't know if they need someone who has worked for a brick and mortar business before.

Oh well, only time will tell.

A few years ago I lost a few clients and had a bad run of about 6 months, and went for 2 interviews with 'SEO agencies' I basically told them more than they'd ever know (even now), and didn't get the jobs. I came out of each of them thinking I'd nailed them.

Seems I don't play the corporate game well or come across as a know it all (which I'm not and don't), but to those dimwits interviewing me I must have seemed like a cocky prick.

Anyway, I think job interviews need those 'bullshit office buzz words' that I don't use. Just stock up on those and you'll probably get the job.

I'm in High School and not really sure any local guys would contact me for SEO. I do SEO work for online clients but not local guys, but I currently earn $800-1k a month and as a person in High School its not bad for me

I suggest going for it, nothing to loose right?

I took rankings of sites I had screwed around with and ranked to my interview and got a job working on Major US Universities, then I got recruited to work for an individual. I did on page and off page stuff, the off page was a TON of guest post outreach and writing....
