I've managed to get my account up to 8000 followers manually and getting between 1600 and 1800 likes per pic easily.
I want to move on from the usual methods of liking/follow/unfollow and do some s4s.
One problem I have though, is accounts in my niche with my number of followers aren't even close to my engagement. The closest account
only gets 800 likes per pic. On the other side of the spectrum, the only accounts with my number of likes have 25k-35k followers.
From this, people with my amount of followers aren't worth it to me and people with my amount of likes might not think I'm worth it. I haven't asked.
Advice? What do I do in this situation.

you are greedy ... don't look always on your advantage. if you want s4s do it.

lol I wouldn't say I'm greedy.
I'm not looking to gain at the extreme expense of someone else. I want something equally beneficial to both of us or as close to it as possible. Even a 600 like engagement difference in both directions would be fine for me. It's just that the gap is so large in either followers or engagement that I might as well charge for a shoutout or pay for one to balance things out, both of which I'm not a fan of right now.

my question is, where do you typically look for people to do sfs with? top posts for related hashtags or?

s4s with the accounts with the same engagement. A like is a like, it's all the same exposure

I'd go for accounts with a similar number of likes. But you will have some explaining to do.
Your RoE is high, so it shouldn't be that much of a problem to convince bigger accounts to do a s4s.

Wich niche are you in? Just curious.

Thanks, I'll try that out. I won't go in detail about my niche for obvious reasons but in general, it's in the healthy living/lifestyle niche.

Interesting thing just happened! One of the biggest accounts in my niche (800k+ followers) just featured my recent post. Getting crazy amounts of followers! :D:cool:

I'm bemused as to how nobody in this thread has asked you HOW on Earth you're getting that level of engagement? Never heard of anything close to that with just 8000 followers before...

I can literally tell you everything I've done. It's honestly nothing new. Maybe I'm just the only one whose put them together in an effective way.

1. Pick a niche that a lot of people are passionate about and you personally enjoy so you're never discouraged.
2. Focus. It's the only account I have so I put all my energy in it.
3. Go manual. I did it because I don't have the cash to buy any of the tools FL, Instagress etc.. maybe a blessing in disguise and you can get away with more than when you're using an bot in terms of following limits. Don't get me wrong, it's time consuming.
4. Post quality stuff. This goes without saying. You can use all the strategies you want. If your content sucks, they'll bounce.
5. Add a personal touch. Early on I made it a must to reply to every comment and actually start conversations, joke around etc developing real relationships. As mentioned in the second point, I have one account so I can afford to do it.
6. Like and comment on some of your followers stuff, they'll appreciate it and remember you so are more likely to engage whenever you post something.
7. Follow/unfollow/like/comment etc
8. Get an app that tracks who unfollows you etc I use crowdfire. It limits you to 60 unfollow an hour but I found it's a good thing so I can never get banned.
9. Just ask. Ask your followers to engage in the caption. Crazy right?
10. Don't buy followers. I considered it, even started a thread about it whether I should do it in order to sell shoutouts quicker. Decided not to, it dilutes engagement.

The most important in my opinion is number 4 then 5. I constantly get comments from people saying they literally love all my pics. Even had some people who I followed and had private accounts message me saying stuff like "Sorry I had to decline your request, I use it for family and people I personally know. I really love your page though so I'm still following you. Hope it's okay" Blows my mind!

It mostly depends on the niche. I have accounts with better engagement than reported here, and I also have accounts with a lot lower.

Find people with equal engagement that are interested in doing S4S. Naturally bigger accounts will have lower engagement, as followers will drop off over time for various reasons. Who cares if the account have 100k followers but only gets <1000 likes.

Sorry for hijacking your thread, but can someone please explain to lazy me how a shoutout works? I've been asked multiple times on Instagram. And being new as I am, I have no clue how to do a shoutout.
