Wordpress Amazon Affiliate Site, Which Plugin?

Hi all,

I want to create a site in the the vein of thisiswhyimbroke. I use Woozone for a shop site but for the site I intend to build I believe this plugin will be a bit resource intensive?

Has anyone else built similar sites and can recommend plugins?

Woozone gives a 90 day cookie but if you manually link then you only get a 1 day cookie, is this correct?

Any help with the direction I need to take or any recommendations of useful plugins for this project much appreciated.

Prosciate is similar to Woozone, again I'm thinking this would probably end up being too heavy on resources, ideal for stores but not for magazine style sites promoting lots of products?

I could be wrong though and maybe the likes of Woozone and Prosciate are exactly what should be used?

I just worry about Amazon. If they feel my website has "Thin Content", will it affect all my websites? I'd love to also use this strategy so I'd like to know if anybody has answers (apologies to the OP for hijacking the thread a bit).

Woozone adds products from Amazon to Woocommerce with affiliate links and monitors the price for you, great for building affiliate stores.

I too am concerned about the thin content thing with both Amazon and Google , but if others are getting away with it...

Yeah, it's had no responses and offers no value though. It also doesn't mention whether Woozone is suitable for this type of website which is a part of this discussion.

Well, one thing that I read was that if you have a few sites that have good content Amazon will "turn a blind eye" to the store-type ones.

This still seems a bit too risky for me. However, Amazon itself offers a store builder. It's called "a store" and there's a page in the affiliate section. I need to get my head round it....

Does anyone know how these sites are managed?

They don't seem to be using Woocommerce on their sites, so not using plugins like Woozone or Prosciate.

I see that on the main page if you click a product it takes you straight to the affiliate site, yet if you search a product they do have a proper product page, as in a woocommerce setup.

They display prices without a 'last updated' notification, so using live pricing updates?

How are they doing this? Any Ideas?

For a number of websites like this, they have custom designed CSS themes that LOOK like eCommerce sites and don't use paid plugins like Woozone or Prosociate. To keep pricing information updated, you can easily have a simple cron job running on your webhosting account (usually cpanel) that checks every 'x' minutes for price/inventory level. It is very easy to do if you know how to set this kind of site up.

Unfortunately, many of these sites are poorly designed to target consumers in the US or UK (any English speaking country primarily) and they get horrible conversions. Why you might ask? Simple: they lack TRUST.

How will you make your visitors click on your spammy looking links? I would not trust this kind of site with my credit card information...I would simply click the back button on my browser if I found a site like this.

To make REAL money, you need to put in some real effort. You might have the best looking site with the best theme but if your traffic senses something is not right, you will not get any conversions. Original, unique content is king. Even with quality plugins like Prosociate, you can bypass the Amazon description for a product (think duplicate content here) and write YOUR OWN description or review article.

You should not expect to get many sales from thin sites like these unless you plan to add your own unique content to them. They can be very successful, but you will need to build trust with your visitors. Only by putting in some solid effort can you make it work properly.

Woozone and Prosociate have the options for 90 day cookies (when adding items to a cart) or for 24 hr (when linking directly to the Amazon website). However, unless your website is designed properly with unique content and compelling text, you will get very few visitors clicking on your links and being sent to Amazon.

Websites like thisiswhyimbroke and dudeiwantthat have thousands of unrelated products listed on their sites and would be difficult to replicate without investing several months to years to outrank them. There are probably some crazy backlinking structures or black hat strategies at play here. You would earn much more with content rich niche bases affiliate websites that have real product reviews from real people. Build trust with your visitors!

I can set the site up in terms of CSS, not a problem. I am able to set up a cron job but the costs of keeping live prices on thousands of products in this manner must be huge? I'm not sure a VPS that I'm currently using would manage this, would it?

These sites are very successful and earn the owners alot of money, yes they don't seem to fit within the agreed SEO parameters for Google, or even maybe comply completely with Amazon TOS (Still not sure about this). But they can work with great success.

I have no problem putting in real effort in fact I going for a 3 pronged approach. I want to build a site as discussed and I am also in the process of building a shop site and a review site. My thinking is to see what sticks and then either replicate or grow.

OK, one more question.

Is there a plugin for Wordpress that can show the live prices from Amazon?

And just another one , do you have to display the time and date the price was retrieved form Amazon on your site to be within Amazons terms?
