Yes, favourite count carries much more than retweet count.
Hashtags play an important role for getting results on the search option.
They act like keywords.

It depends. If you search with the # sign, you'll get the results for the hashtag obviously. If you search without the # sign, you'll get tweets which contain your keyword. But if you try it, you'll see.

i tried, but i just couldnt come to a conclusion.
when i search WITH #, i get separated keywords too. e.g., if i search for #somethingelse, it shows tweets containing "something else".

Most situations that I've encountered with Twitter favor the hashtag. I do my marketing to target those who use the hashtag. It's just easier to track for Twitter.

They are both going to target what your looking for, not sure if it would make much of a difference or not, just targeting one or the other..

Well, if i search with the # sign, i get only tweets with that particular hashtag. If i search without the # sign, i get tweets, which contain the keyword without the # sign, if there's a tagged account in the tweet, which contains the keyword, those tweets show up too. That's why i said, that it depends on if you wanna search for a hashtag or a keyword (including tagged accounts). The results are well-separated for me both under the Top and the Live results, i'm not sure, why it is different for you.
