It depends. If you search with the # sign, you'll get the results for the hashtag obviously. If you search without the # sign, you'll get tweets which contain your keyword. But if you try it, you'll see.how do people search? with or without the pound sign?
how does twitter display the results differently?

is it true that favorite count carries a lot more weight than retweet count?
Well, if i search with the # sign, i get only tweets with that particular hashtag. If i search without the # sign, i get tweets, which contain the keyword without the # sign, if there's a tagged account in the tweet, which contains the keyword, those tweets show up too. That's why i said, that it depends on if you wanna search for a hashtag or a keyword (including tagged accounts). The results are well-separated for me both under the Top and the Live results, i'm not sure, why it is different for you.i tried, but i just couldnt come to a conclusion.
when i search WITH #, i get separated keywords too. e.g., if i search for #somethingelse, it shows tweets containing "something else".
is there any stats that says what percentage of people search with # and without?
