Go for it. Worst he can do is say no. But make sure you come to him with a solid idea as assuming you're in Silicon Valley, I can only imagine he's been bothered more than a handful of times by losers with terrible business ideas.

If I made $800,000 a year, I would want nothing to do with someone trying to copy an Adsense Exploit.
Homes do not equal status any more.
I have a former coworker who lives in a $5.5m, 7,000 square foot home in Tennessee. He inherited it when his parents died in a car accident a few years ago. He makes $75k a year, and treats the taxes, insurance, etc as a "mortgage".
My wife is working with a pair of trauma surgeons who pull in close to a million a year easily. They live in a $300,000 home because a) it's paid off, and b) that's all they need. Their big expenditure is travel.
