Bets way to do phone verification?

One method I've heard is buying sim cards. You buy a sim card, it comes with a number, and you can verify 3-5 accounts with it. I was wondering if I could do the same with those 1 cent sim cards you find on amazon and ebay.

Would this work? If not, whats the best alternative?
