Kindle Journey to 4 figures monthly

Please bare in mind this isn't going to be a short journey, nor are there going to be daily or even possibly weekly updates. I'm planning on writing and publishing these ebooks myself, mostly in advice and how to niches, I'm also a slow writer so books are not going to come out all that often yet I hope to focus more on marketing. No ghost writers will be used, they just seem too much hassle.

University also comes first, in months leading up to exams I'll put the books on backburners.

Meanwhile I'm growing a few Instagram pages in different niches, these will be used to advertise my later books.


So far, I've started two different books, probably 1/3 of the way in on both of them, nothing published but hoping to complete one within a couple of week

I'm also looking to create a group of 'generous' book review group to leave reviews on each other's Ebooks on Amazon, will provide more information ata later date so check the comments

Good luck with this! I have a question - do you do any KW research for the ebooks you are writing, or do you just pick a topic you want and think of the title and everything else on your own, regardless of any KWs?

First couple of books will be on topics I am comfortable writing about and can fill out for content just to get the feel of it, then after that I'll chase the sales, that's when the KW will be coming in.

Also the Instagram page I'm growing has around 5,000 followers so far, by the time I've finished the 2 books I'll be at like 15k, that's when I'll write a book in that niche just to push me higher towards the topranks which will get me a lot of exposure
 
Good luck! I admire your dedication, this is quite the long game and I hope you'll reap the benefits of your long term consistency and patience. Looks like you have no hesitation or fear that you'll abandon this halfway through?

Naa not at all, even at times of lost motivation I can still contribute even the tiniest amount of words, whether it be 100 or 200 ata time. It is not something you constantly have to be on top of so a few days off is not going to set you back a whole load as much other ventures would

Kindle is still a lucrative business model, just remember you get what you put into it. Slack off and your earnings will show for it.

2,700 words done today, looking to have achieved around 7k before finishing up and submitting my book.

Maybe I'll aim for around 1,000 tomorrow and possible 2,000 over the weekend, should be done around Wednesday due to busy schedule
 
1,000 words since my last update, 90% of that done within the last few hours seeing as I was unbelievably ill this past weekend. Atleast I still made progress as the Instagram account is growing fucking well, almost up to 4k followers from 3k on Friday.

Also I've had a thought, asking Followers to purchase the niche related Ebooks through direct message which could possibly convert much better than a post that looks like an advertisement.

But I have a few questions such as what are the chances of bans/limits, would it be a permanent risk to my account as I doubt a few book sales would be worth it, would it be flagged as spammy (looking not to have the link to reduce chances) and what precautions should I be taking? Also, if I only receive a temp ban from sending DMs only I would not care at all

I had a book that got down to about 8000 on the Kindle charts, and number 1 in my main category. At that point, you discover all the dirty games that publishers get up to to try and trash your reputation and sales. There is no limit to the amount of mud they will fling at you to try and eradicate the competition.

Having had only 4 and 5 star reviews for 5 months, some neckbeard carpet-bombed my Amazon page with 25 one star reviews in the space of half an hour. It completely torpedoed my sales. I reported it to Amazon, and fortunately they swiftly deleted all the one star reviews.

Buying verified reviews is a "must have" at the beginning. You can get them from Fiverr and various other places. Don't forget to put reviews on Amazon UK and Amazon Australia.

I found the most effective way to boost my sales near the beginning was doing free promos. A couple of weeks before your promo date, make sure to submit your promo details to all the relevant sites. Do a Google search for "76+ Places to Submit Your Free KDP Select Promotion for Your Kindle eBook"
From using the list on this page, I had about 12,400 copies downloaded in the first 12 hours of my Amazon free promo, and huge numbers of reviews and write-ups about my book in blogs and some local newspapers, with the all important backlinks to my Amazon page.
N.B. Before you do your free promo, make sure you have a decent wedge of 4 and 5 star reviews.

I also recommend publishing a paper copy of your book, because some people still like that, and it costs you nothing - if you go through CreateSpace there is no upfront fee. They just take a small commission on each sale and they do the distribution through Amazon for you.

If you are a student you may be tight on money, but one thing you mustn't do is short on the book cover. Get the best cover you can afford from someone with a proven history of doing book covers. It will make a HUGE difference to your sales.

Anyhow, it is quite a fun journey, especially when you start outranking the celebrities books in your category. There is a very smug feeling about that.
