Intel has just released a monster. The Xeon E5-2600 v4 has 22 cores on a single chip. Drop a pair of these into a suitable configured motherboard and imagine the black magic you could wreck. Of course, a pair of these monsters would cost $8230, but hell you could back these up with triple Nvidia GeForce GTX TITAN Z 12G-P4-3990-KR and you would have a machine that would frighten most governments.

The v3 edition had up to 18 cores, v2 up to 12 cores and v1 up to 8 cores, so this wouldn't be some kind of joke intel is doing especially since its marketed towards enterprise solutions.

Yeah I just read the actual article. I came straight to this thread from another thread I knew was a joke and half read this one.

I literally sat down and priced up a dream machine with these and it worked out at $12,000. Hahaha so Damn cool tho. Then it was suggested to me that for $12,000 you could buy hundreds of raspberry pis and just build your own mini super computer. Then I googled that and was super impressed with the results people actually got from doing it. Thinking about making my own mini cluster. It's not quite the new Intel Xeon chip but hey... baby steps.

Lets just say that a raspberry Pi could not keep up.

But even with ~340 raspberry pi's you won't even come close to the performance that setup something like only10-15% and it couldn't really do clustering well do to the 100Mbps ethernet slowing it down.

Raspberry pi's are good for learning to cluster and getting experience on it, before going to something like an opteron based cluster(they are really cheap now $60 to $80 for a used 6240).
