Hey there,

I'm gonna be managing 10 Tumblr blogs for some extra cash.

I'm stuck on deciding what niche I should choose... Which niche is the most profitable?

Fashion, music, comedy, photography... examples... but which one is the best nowadays?

Thanks in advance,

Luke

PS. I don't do NSFW.

There is no such thing as "most profitable," it all depends on your marketing tactics, content and future trends. Here is the basic trend and direction it tends to go.

High Competition = High Return = Hard to get market share
Low Competition = Low Return = Easy to get market share

That being said, if you pick something you have experience in. For example I worked for Burberry for a little while so I would probably go into fashion as I am likely to know more about it than the competition and have an advantage over them despite it being higher competition.

Nobody is going to just hand you a niche, think outside the box.

Thanks for this fast response man.

I understand what you say, but when I tell people I will be doing the comedy niche they tell me: 'Oh no! The comedy niche is full of broke teenagers! You won't be earning anything.'

So by this topic I am asking for some advice. What could you recommend?

It depends on which way would you like to choose for monetization.
I think content lockers are very good for tumblr. For example, movies, music, games etc.
Or you can just create entertaining sites for adsense, for example, with funny pictures etc.

I would suggest look at things by asking yourself these questions in this order:

1. Do I have experience in this area?
2. Is there content in this area that works with Tumblr? (Normally beautiful pictures)
3. Is there a method of monetisation that I personally can work with and is this niche popular enough to generate traffic from?
4. Will I enjoy working in this niche or will it be boring and monotonous?
5. Is there potential to upscale inside this niche or in neighbouring niches?
6. What are my target earnings and do they work with my niche and upscale plan?
- If you are targeting comedy and expecting to make $10,000 a week you might need to look at another niche
- If you are targeting loans and don't have a budget which is large maybe you need to look for another niche
7. Will this niche require constant work or is it a passive project?

Once YOU personally are satisfied with these questions then simply jump in. You can always change later!

Oh thanks. I thought content lockers are causing bans, due to people reporting the posts.

I personally think (correct me if I'm wrong), that Tumblr would be in-general, a less-profitable social media platform, compared to Instagram, or Facebook, so I would recommend another if possible. I would go with girls, to exploit the fact that Tumblr doesn't censor photos.

Thanks, you have been a great help. Will keep these questions in mind whenever a niche pops up in my mind! :-)

What leads you to believe that it's less profitable? If you can't make money on Tumblr, you can't make money on IG.

If you give people a real content after content lockers it will be ok with your sites ))

I'd go for one the has the best networks and commison. And the most potential for posts to go viral

Why don't you want to use News niche?
I think it'll be more profitable for you and you can earn more by using news blogs.

A few I've seen executed well: stoner, fashion, girly/relatable

Competition doesn't really matter that much on social media. There are plenty of users and many will happily follow multiple accounts in the same niche.
