Ranking homepage vs inner pages

Hello.

I am currently ranking 3 keywords to the homepage URL where i also have the appropriate article for these words.

Lets say i want to rank some more kw's, is it better to rank the homepage or another inner page where probably i will have more specific content ?

If you can add related posts on the homepage targeting the KWs, then you can continue with that.

But I do mine this way. I target 5 to 10 KWs in my homepage (plus 10s of longtail KWs of course)
And then build related inner pages and rank them for their own selected keywords.

If you already ranking 3 keywords to home page, then I suggest you to optimize keywords to the inner pages if you target more keywords, so that looks more natural to the eyes of Google.

Your article must be really long to target 10 keywords. What density do you normally target Mate?

Use home page's keywords in inner pages of your website too. Then create quality content using those keywords. After that write a blog or an article using keywords of your website and post it.

It's a problem for me too.
For one website, the homepage is better ranked for secondary keywords that have an inner pages better optimized for that keywords.
For that seconday keywords, the homepage have always from 3 to 6 better position than the inner page (homepage is #11, inner page is #18-23).
So now I decided to link to homepage from the inner page, so I think it will pass more power to the homepage

I know home page that is the strongest page on the site.The PR flows from home page to the inner page.So i'll make sure mu homepage is perfectly backed up first.

Use that 3 keywords for the homepage.
Use other keywords for inner pages, it'll provide you good and efficient results in ranking the site.

Personally I suggest to build 1 inner page per keyword to give proper optimizing.
