Hi guys,

So I've been learning a lot about SEO on this forum and on other sources. From what I've seen, Google is going to rely less and less on backlinks to determine a site's authority.

Instead, they track clicks and user metrics to determine a site's quality, since they now have the computational power to do so. This is why social signals are becoming increasingly important, even if the big G says social media doesn't influence SEO "directly".

Since I'm new and working on my first niche site, I can't really tell the direct impact of "Rank Brain" on websites.

Do you guys have any personal thoughts or experience to share regarding this update?

Your brain has been infiltrated by the "Gurus" and their propaganda to convert you to a whitehat noob and pay $5,000/month for their SEO

Right now and for the foreseeable future backlinks will be a major factor.

You & I will die one day, but backlink no way !!!

HQ backlinks will always stay in the game.

If some bigger and more popular site points at your site, Google will like that, and more sites with HQ similar niche content links to you, Google will love you more.

Didn't you read the thread? Backlinks & SEO are both dead.

Exactly why I made a thread on BHW ahah :p Always take things with a grain of salt when it comes to SEO gurus.

i started my journey in web development in 2008, later i came to know about SEO and other stuff, and here is common thread in every big forum which i joined.

2009: seo will be dead..year passed nothing happened
2010: seo will be dead.. no its still alive'
2011: seo is dead: no i think it got kemo therapy
2012: seo will be dead: thread poster got banned
2013: it will be dead: i replied LOL
2014: seo is gone: f***k off
2015: seo is dead: ya and internet explorer is best browser
2016: no seo will work: and i am wasting my 5 min in typing this.

Importance of back link will remain always. Link building strategies change all the time. As before some will not be as effective as now in future. But new link building strategies will come out.

Why the hell are you opening this kind of useless threads? I don't get it ...

Backlinks died a long time ago. Now we all depend on Peweps' Amazing Google SERP spychoKinetic ranking powers to rank sites.

On a serious note, Build a site (preferably an authority one) have some authority local citations. diversify the types of links coming into your site. Add in a few PBNs and "Boom twaff" You're ranking. Leave Rank Brain to google employees.

Yes they will die tomorrow so stop what you are doing right no w and get out of IM/SEO because it is all dead

Not talking about SEO dying, tallking about social media (to generate good user metrics) becoming more important than linkbuilding.

You know these sort of threads are mildly annoying because they really don't accomplish anything- they arent asking questions or really pushing forward new ideas. I don't think backlinks- the very foundation of google rank algorithm, are going to die. Sure things change quickly, however, NO the arent dying.

If you are keeping up with what Google is saying, they are basically changing their core algorithms in 2016. By using backlinks, Google needs a third party opinion on wether a site is good or not and it's probably the biggest flaw in their system.
With statistics and their computational power, they now are capable of making their own opinion about a website's value. They don't need a 3rd party's approval. The question is : to what extend is that true and where is in going to be in 6 months/1 year/5 years.

Because I'd rather talk about what is going to work in 2016/2017 than what worked in 2014.
